I would say Alpine. Never liked Kenwoods much, Pioneers even less so.
I have had 2 Panasonics I have purchased new & find them very durable & good sounding.
No idea what is on offer nowadays as my Panasonic isnt anywhere near dead yet.. USB port seems such a good idea to me in a HU.
alpine all the way.. carnt go wrong :)

See I hate Pioneer 'sound'. I can never please my ears in a Pioneer headed car. I think their TS-E range of speakers are fantastic.

Most alpine units now come with usb option, problem is they are always on the front of the unit which looks messy, if you use the non full speed ipod lead it will have a usb join in it which will allow you connect usb in the glovebox/ashtray etc.
As far as pioneer go, this unit:-http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/12675.html
And for that money you cant go wrong!
lg do some great cheap hu's with usb etc.

I have an Alpine:

Can't fault it for the money - especially seeing as you get th full speed ipod lead thrown in, you also have a front USB, aux in, it will play any format of music and you can set the illumination so it looks decent at night as well!
Just got one of these to keep in the car and put in the front USB when I don't want to take my iPod out.

Doesn't protrude out of the HU much and is more re-writeable than CDs!
