View Full Version : Saab 2.3 turbo
Has anyone looked into fitting a 2.3 Saab engine into a nova?? I know they are a bit longer than a 20xe but they do bolt onto a F20 box.
I was just offered a very cheap full car :-)
i'll answer, if no-one starts being stupid.
afaik...the mounts are the same. or at least my mate thinks so as he has been lookin at sticking one in an astra
If youre thinking the one as found in the 9000 carlsson then i would have said its too wide, there is a thread in projects where one is/has been fitted into a mk2 astra and a lot of chassis leg widening has been done to allow it to sit in the bay properly!
theres a couple mk3 astras running them down this way. ive not heard or seen anyone attempt it in a nova yet though.
if you do it Be sure to make a project thread with lots of info :)
IIRC Paul with the yellow turbo nova was putting one in a mk2 astra gte but that was the 2.0 T
Yes in the astra is a fairly easy swap to do. The nova is narrow so might be a case of spaceframe the front end to get the space needed that might be lacking between the chassis legs
If anyone can, Colin can lol
it will be too tight. leave it for astras or corsas

Definately:thumb:
Colin, if space is an issue in the bay why dont you turn the egine round and say, run it longitudinally :wink wink: lol

nothing a 14lb sledge, some binder twine and some stonechipping cannot sort lol
binder twine would not be good enough for that sort of conversion.....
you could try to shift the gearbox over to the left to get a little more room, but spaceframing it seems a bit extreme
right, i did post a klink to a post off mig, where a lad had fitted one to a nova, so it has been done. like its been said the 9000 motor is laid out different, its the 900 post 93 you need. i can go on, but thats the basics. if it was me, i'd use a corsa c 1.7 cdti front subframe, and build a space frame around it, then use an f23 box, as this bolts in nicely, and go from there. there is a lad in birmingham running a 2.0 fpt in a corsa c, and its pushing 400bhp, and looks factory.

pmsl that's the game lol
rwd was a thought but I just bought a nova last week to have as a daily driver and be better on fuel than my hilux so don't want to go to far into it and make it rwd
1.9 cdti ;) go on, go on, go on..... even the poxy 120ps one has more torque than a Courtaney "stage 2" ZLET lmao
Cheers Sloth I will have a look for that

that was thought of aswell as I used to have a Saab 95 3.0l cdti and that went like fook but the v6 diesels are funny money
if your feeling brave, there was a z28net from a vectra vxr on ebay for 900

yeah bare engines and gearboxes are mental cash, but you can get a catB/C car for shag all
I can see this changing from a nice easy project to another monster money pit
