View Full Version : Amp with 'ipod in' function?
Basically I dont have a head unit in the VX anymore, but I want some music.
Are there any amps about that can take a 3.5mm/Ipod input to give me some sound through the speakers?
Only needs to be 2channel, fairly small and no more than 50Watts lol
Doable?
Pretty much every amp on the market will take its input from a pair of RCA's, in which case you just need a minijack to RCA lead. I may even have one lurking somewhere, if I find one, let me know how long you want it and ill solder it up the right length :)
EDIT actually I have a load of connectors anyway so I can make you one :)

Sarfie, thats a bit too "likely to recoil and irritate me" lol
So just need to find a smallish amp fo cheaps
As said, any amp will be up to it.

plenty of amps on the 'bay I'd imagine.
You'll just need a switched remote wire obviously for switching the amp on/off.
Don't do what I have in the past, buy a cheapass RCA lead and use the shielding between the two channels for the remote live. lol
A mate was wanting to fit just an amp too. No reason to have a head unit if you're not that bothered I guess. :)

I guess an Ipod is a headunit...
Some nice Rockfords on the bay & Alpine V12's. Thats as far as I got searching until I was looking at trainers.. lol

That is actually genious! Weight saving & Anti thefting in 1 hit!
I was going to look at a carputer thing, but CBA with the faff and weight.
Need to find a diddy cheap amp, they all seem to be massive and huge power thesedays :(
think I've found the solution.
Only place I can find selling these 'epic' bits of kit lol

fapping minted :)
Stu, I have an old little 2 channel lying around you can have for free...
although that bay one looks a good option.

your meant to, i assume you mean the thin wire that goes between the two rcas?

yarpen!
its just an amp, you give it a source which is either a headunit or iPod or DAB radio etc :)
Matt, cheers for the offer, but the ebay pikey thing looks ace as I can lob a memory card in etc
I have purchased the pikey ebay item and shall have a damn good giggle when it arrives
well its arrived, I'm confused as to how the IR remote works as I cant see a hole for it lol
Its a hillariously poor quality item but for £18.50ish you cant whinge. Just need to get a female ISO adaptor to wires bit to fit it and away we go in pikey fireville
Right, finally wired it in (added a relay so it comes on with the ign but uses the permy live feed as the power supply as the VX has a 20Amp feed to that vs the 10amp ign one).
For a cheap ass £18 amp/radio/sd card player its fapping epic!!!! OK the interface for playing mp3 folders is a bit cak (you cant skip folders, well not that I've found yet) but its not the end of the world.
The radio is pants, but I wont be using that bit due to having a DAB unit to plug in.
All in, pretty cool for the moneys involved :)
