The inlet pipe going from turbo to the afm, how does that fit there in under the front panel?

my panel is cut and im using a standard pipe from the calibra and it still looks a touch squeezed :S

I had to trim the panel back and cut down the headlight adjuster. I then hacksawed a notch into the end of the chopped down adjuster so you can still use a screwdriver on the end. IIRC for the guys who chop and re-angle the turbo housing not so much cutting is involved.

Also, depending on how you cut your front panel can obviously effect strength. I chose to have the whole front piece removeable held in with screws...

If its running a kkk turbo I'd cut the turbo inlet like Keith and Benn have done, looks a lot neater also

More work!!

The PITA about cutting the turbo inlet is like Benn found out it can be a bit guess work and most will have to get someone else to weld it, whereas I think most are capable of getting busy with a hacksaw! lol

Personally the chopped turbo housing is the better route but I don't like the way it then makes the afm/filter sit in the bay - looks odd imo.

Mine was also cut out slightly.

I used to run my turbo with the front panel cut out, didn't like it, top of the front panel eventually started flexing a lot, so on my rebuild I cut the turbo and re-welded to save cutting my new front panel out. Hopefully pictures below will show the angle of the cut and weld... :thumb:

Best way is to modify the turbo.

My front locking panel is complete standard, it's not cut away at all.

I've since swapped to a smaller pipercross filter and it still sits fine.

Best way is to modify the intake pipe like Keith n andys I've cut the front panel on mine but I'm going to weld it back up and mod the pipe. Any more pics would be helpfully but guess I'm going have to trial fit my engine again. To get the pipe cut n angled correctly.

Out of interest do you have to trim and weld the top lip of the front o/s engine mount with the turbo intake modded? And what's the clearence like for the rad top hose?

andybishop

It's all a bit tight, pretty sure my engine mount stayed as it was.. but it's a tight fit.

I've cut the lip off the engine mount and had it welded flat. But it's a fairly pointless thing to do as the engine mount bolts sit up just as high.

Should be fine just doing the turbo mod.

I've cut the panel but nowhere near as severely as some of the ones posted on here. I just cut out of the back of the panel rather than the flat bit on top in order to retain strength. Pipe isn't squashed at all.
