My 1.4 nova, post '95 corsa engined beast is mated to an F10/4 gearbag, I assume it'll be using the smaller flywheel and would need a smaller clutch, perhaps one from a 1.0 nova which this formerly was?

if its an 8 valve you want a clutch for a Nova 1.3/1.4

Yea it's an 8v. So it doesn't matter what gearbag is fitted to the engine then?

nope, 1.4s should have an F10 as standard anyway :thumb:

1.0 F10's have a different bellhousing. You need an OHC (1.2 upwards) F10.

I have just checked the engine number and I have found that it is actually a x16szr block? Dies that make any difference?

yeah it's 200cc more than you think it is for a start lol Unless it's got some sort of crazy head/rods/crank combo... Where did you get it from?

Blackie_No1

It was fitted to the car when I bought it, I was told that it was a 1.4

you will have an f13 box fitted...

General Baxter

you could just go look at the code on the gearbox lol

he has a 1.6 block, only f13 or bigger fits, and it has the bigger flywheel & clutch.

yep, just cleaned the bit under the selector and it does indeed say f13!! do they come in a 4 speed?

mowgli

Push the gearstick down like you would to select reverse and see if it will engage 5th mate.

ahhhhh will give that a go!!

it could be that you only have a 4 speed shifter box on the top, check that it will physically go into 5th.

the other big telltale is on a 4 speed, if you look under the lh wheelarch, there is a huge hexagon shaped plug on the end of the box, it is about 36mm, the 5 speed hasn't

Just did what Damen said, and there was fifth!!! Just cut the lug of at the side of the gearstick and now I have five gears!! Sweet, what a great day this has been so far!! Lol

blackie, who on earth did you buy it from???? cos they sound like a right character..... 5speed box, but only 4 on the stick, mix & match engine......etc, it must dent your confidence just a touch when driving it

Blackie_No1

I bought it from a clown by the looks of things, and over the past six weeks I have been rectifying mistakes!! I'm not 100% sure about the mix match engine, I'm gonna have to investigate further

Don't quite know your humour yet dude, so I'm hoping that was a joke . . . I ain't taking it thick though

I've done over 5000 miles since I got the car, and about 3500 since fitting a head gasket, water pump and timing belt . . . .

It had also just passed a legit MOT the day before I bought it . . . .

mowgli
05-05-10, 07:13 PM
blackie, you'll get used to me....

are all the mot stations in NI still government run and thus strict?

don''t worry too much about the mix & match, but as i have said, get some old boys t sort it out....

that 1.6 only gives 75hp in std form, which is less than the 1.4, so the 1.4 carb should be ok

Blackie_No1
05-05-10, 07:25 PM
Aye mate, still all government run, and yea strict as . . .!!!!

Based on the engine code and TV's V files this is a "high output" engine though, what that exactly means on a single point engine I'm not sure.

I'm trying to get a vw 2e3 carb for her.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't slow, but now that I know it's a 1.6 I feel
there could be more power got out of her

I'm glad I didn't take your statement thick then lol
