Where have all the Novas gone (North East)?

I joined about a week ago (last owned a Nova in 1995)..

Intention is (or was) to find a saloon, get a project thread running and restore back to original spec..

Since then I'm in two minds whether to pursue the saloon or look for a 5 door..

I'm prepared to wait as long as it takes to find one locally (or local-ish) and I still have some contacts from my dealership days..

Novas (in use and for sale) are extremely rare around here now, (there's a steel grey GSI kicking about, but that's about it)..

However, they are out there, if you look at ebay just about every Nova is over 100 miles away from me and to be honest, my trailing the country for cars days are probably coming to an end.

So where are the old Novas for sale in the north east?

I know we have (or had) issues with corrosion here on the NE coast but still, there's got to be a few left, in garages, drives, gardens, whatever???

Or do we just scrap everything up here?

Maybe I'm just being impatient, like I said I can wait..

Funny thing is last week on scotswood road (near the B&Q) I saw an identical car driven by an old man.

There's probably loads of older cars still being driven by their original owners to run to Asda once a week, who don't realise that they are driving a modern classic..

For example:

We took an immaculate 10(ish) year old Nova GL in part exchange years ago, FSH, green tints, with approx 1500 miles on the clock. An old lady who used it for shopping only. Bought a new Corsa B. Got pennies for it..

Problem is they are all down south.

Thereabouts..

I'm in the legendary Ashington home of the Charltons and Steve Harmison (about 18ish miles south of Alnwick) :)

I'm sure I spotted that GSI parked up a few weeks ago in the lay-by just before the Cramlington slip road (A1)..

i've seen the silver gsi with the soft stars kicking about, very nice, it's just nice to see clean looking nova's on the road but like you say not many around.

haha very true me and my brother fixed the electrics on mine yestoday then pulled it out the garrage for 5mins then it went back in but should be comein out within the next few month when i pass my test :thumb:

My mates one from near alnwick is a grey gsi rep with a 1.7td motor, looks very similar to that one above ^^^ although has now got black multispokes on it:thumb:

I know of a few in the Sunderland area, a silver GTE, a white GSi (J4MLY) a red poverty spec mk2 3dr, poverty spec silver mk1 3dr and I barely look at the twelve doors. That flame red GSi with the chrome bumper inserts that was 'stolen' has also been spotted around Co Durham by me. lol

There's definitley more about than when I had my SR a few years back. :)

Also one in Haswell Plough owned by a man called Stu, its a bare shell at the minute which he is restoring after a little bit of fire damage, clean apart from that.

A lad from Wingate had a diesel one with a silly bodykit on it which he sold not long ago, I've seen a standard blue one pottering around peterlee, Paul and his brother have one each, and there was 2 more Paul had which went to the scrap yard as they were rotten.
