should have cross hatch marks around 45 degrees, there will be light scoring run your finger round to see how rough\ deep it is.

took pistons out. i thought the rings were ment to be able to move a bit in the grove on the piston?these ones are solid apart from one I have done a few bike piston and rings .a take it the e16 should be the same as in a movment in the rings.

stevie, the engine will be about 20 years old, you can't expect perfection. yes, rings should move freely in the grooves, but not after that long. i had a 1.2 that ate a top ring at 7 years old & 60k, but the 7 years had been hard use with 3000 mile oil changes, the other three pistons rings were either broken or solid

heres some pics m8 no the best tho.the top edge of the piston is really rough and the scores on the bores are bad ,When you run your finger nail round the inside it catchs and stops your finger thats prob the best way to describe it lol:thumb:

i can see factory bore lines there still but also looks like the tops are worn, give those bores a good clean and take some more pics.

if it needs a rebore then you need larger pistons 0.5 oversize!
