I've noticed this on the Volvo, it currently has a snapped front pipe, and on the rare occasions I have used it since It broke over the weekend I have noticed it pops and bangs a hell of a lot when backing off the throttle.

Could the black spots be unburned fuel?

It does pop flames if I change down at high RPM, and seemed to be running rich before the exhaust broke.

I'm not really bothered, more curious.

Id more likely say the black spots are blobs of tar as its been hot enough to melt it and due to all the torn open roads and potholes the tar in the road is splattering about more than normal, trust me its a valeters nightmare

Usually tar spots, get some tar & glue remover on them.

If theyre sooty then its just the sooty crap you get when you burn anything, poke your finger inside ya tail pipe and when you remove ya finger, its black and sooty, thats what it is lol

I could clean my tail pipe now and it would stay VXR Marc fresh seeing as everything is exiting under the belhousing. lol

I will blast the pressure washer at them on its next shower day. Then when that fails I will dig out the tar n glue remover. lol
