Stuart
28-04-10, 06:31 PM
Was my description really that vague? lol

stand next to the passenger wing. bonnet open, look at the distributor. There will be the 4 outer prongs sticking out... Number 1 is the one at the top right (or 1 o'clock position)

Leeboo
28-04-10, 06:35 PM
Thats probably why I can't get my engine running. I put them on 1342 clockwise with 1 being the top left looking at dizzy :wall: I'm a tw@t.

Must correct that when I get back from uni at the weekend!!

Stuart

okay we now have a tractor running very rich o_0

if you have the plugs on correctly it's probably just full of fuel from turning over on random sparks, injection ftw :p

Southie
28-04-10, 06:45 PM
Thankfully on the corsa engines they number them on the coilpacks for numptys lol

Lee
28-04-10, 06:46 PM
LOL

OK, to clarify, 1342 on Dizzy cap, starting from top right going anti clockwise. 1234 on cylinders running left to right when standing in front of car.

DOuble check that.

Also check you plugged in the king lead lol

I started this thread 100% confident how to wire up a smallblock, and now I dont have a clue lol

MK999
28-04-10, 06:56 PM
if you look at the diagram dizzy 3 leads to cylinder 2 and vice versa lol If you ignore the pretty colours it works lol and I'm sure my E16SE runs the other way but then it never did seem to run right... :p

MK999
28-04-10, 06:56 PM
I started this thread 100% confident how to wire up a smallblock, and now I dont have a clue lol

I'm not sure if my engine was ever running on 4 now lol

Saloony
28-04-10, 06:58 PM
lol my 2 pence worth.

Looking at the dizzy from the passenger wing the rotor arm will rotate in an anticlock wise motion. Number 1 cylinder is that closest to the cambelt, drivers side, number 4 is that closer to the dizzy.

Undo the clips for the dizzy cap, on the face edge of the body of the dizzy, there will be a cut out no wider than a saw blade, this is your starting point. That is number 1. Make yourself aware of what pin it relates to on the cap and replace the cap. So now your longest lead goes on that one (number 1) and to number one cylinder, working in an anti clock wise direction the next one goes to number 3, next after that is number 4, then number 2.

Make sense?

I am creased up reading this thread!

The poor girl has had a go, made the mistake and thought i will ask on the Nova enthusiasts website where she has been lucky and had 2 of the admin team online to reply but the entire thread is fooked and now she is more confused than when she started,

I would delete this whole thread as if the VBOA see it they will think there lying they must be a ford club in disguise!

Lol you still not sorted it out, laymans terms....

As you look at the engine, left to right the plugs number 1, 2, 3, 4.

As you look at your dizzy cap from the passenger side wing looking directly at it...
Top right is number 1
Top left is number 3
Bottom left is number 4
Bottom right is number 2

Hope that clarifies it:thumb:

needless to say im getting fustrated with the nova meh

dj_wudgey
28-04-10, 10:08 PM
get it presure tested before doing the head gasket!

Spudly
28-04-10, 10:09 PM
If you think its the gasket id take it to reputable garage and get it checked/confirmed before you start ripping it to bits, if you struggled with plug leads you will never do a head gasket:eek:

Nebbz
28-04-10, 10:09 PM
i cant even get it to a garage it breaks down so soon :S

ide rather call a mobile mechanic haha

Umm you do have brakes when being towed, just no servo assistance so makes them harder to use!

Nebbz
28-04-10, 10:17 PM
nope had no breaks last time, bumped off the other cars bumper :S and after one big crash with breaks failing.....dont want a 2nd dont think my back can take a crash like it again lol

Spudly
28-04-10, 10:21 PM
Well there was a fault with the brakes then as your brakes operate fine without the engine running, you just need to press harder on them!

dj_wudgey
28-04-10, 10:24 PM
you prob just need to pres the pedal harder!

Are you looking at the head or the rocker? :p Is it above or below where the exhaust bolts on?

Nebbz
28-04-10, 10:31 PM
above the manifold

MK999
28-04-10, 10:33 PM
That's your rocker gasket, and won't cause you running problems, just makes the engine all oily. I'd still get it checked over by someone who knows what they're looking at, but the oil all over the place doesn't indicate headgasket. i.e I'm not saying it's *not* that, but what you see is not evidence of it.

Nebbz
28-04-10, 10:43 PM
small relief i guess. I suppose after 6 weeks not having a car, im a little fustrated about it, also having so much faith in the dam thing and every one i know saying scrap it just keeps proving them right.....

......stupid thing urgh got two cars like it now!!!!! a ford and vauxhall

ON A GOOD NOTE the other halfs sick of me f'in and blinding about the thing, and the fact i keep having to drive his car haha! (scared of his alloys as he knows if he pisses me off there getting kirbed)

Hes paying for it to go to a mechanic and they deal with it, haha bless him, although i had a pat on the back and well done for trying to do it my self.....even if i failed big time hehe
