I wouldnt choose anything outside of 45-49mm. Arch scrubbing & tramlining will annoy the pants off you.

et50 is OIK, thats sticks in 1mm ore than et49. However, you need to make sure they will clear the brake calipers or shocks etc with the tyres on.

What we reckon then peeps, the'll fit if I fit lower profile tires?
Mine are ET33 6J with 185/55/14's, not too bad at 60mm but I had a tiny bit of scrubbing with 2 fat people in the back. Nowhere near as bad as my old hatch with 195/45/15's on at ET45 with nobody in the back though

Eh?
ET38 is what you want. Handles soooo much better then anything ET40+ IMHO.
Why do you want tyres that big? They are Cav sized.
Think 195/45 size.
I've lowered mine as far as they go on the Coilovers today and I'm finding my drivers side wind a tad close to the tyre if you want to go low low stay above 40
