View Full Version : V6 Brakes
Ok, I've gotten some V6 Vectra Calipars. I know Cav Turbo Calipars work with Fiat Coupe 20v front discs, but is it NA or Turbo Applications that I need? Also, theres a little enlarging or a spiggot ring to go in place, I did a search and cant find the info, so care to share?

Why dont you just get GM discs & pad set on trade club. £50.
Coupe turbos are 308s
You want the N/a 284 discs

No you redrill them to 4 stud (3 new holes & one elongated) [easy]. Spigot rings to centre them properly.
Trade club is a scheme that heavily discounts common service parts at Vauxhall dealerships. You either need a trade account or be ojn good terms with the poarts man or have your own trade membership through MIG or a similar thing.

Also, fiat disks are 284, v6 is 288, someone on mig was saying the caliper if offset differantly on 284 to 288??
Or just use fiat discs, open 1-2holes slightly and wang them straight on

Yeah you bodge it with washers between the knuckle & caliper. BODGE!

Or just use the Fiat ones for £40 inc damage and no drilling:confused:

And drilling your own holes in discs aint? :p

Thats what i thought lol

To be fair 4 pots are usually mounted on what is effectively massive washers lol
The Fiat discs seem to be the best option by all accounts. Its to go on the front of a 1600 Corsa, I have no 16v ATEs spare and 2 sets of these so that should do the trick.

Didn't Ad say you have to open up the holes...

discs are so soft, drilling shouldnt be an issue anyway.
The Fiat Discs are 4x98 isnt it? So each hole needs widened 1mm am I correct?
You can get away with just opening 2 of the holes up, i did

but they'd then be off centre surely? that can't be good lol

Thats where the spigot ring comes in to do its job

But then the bolt holes can't fit, surely! unless you're just abusing the clearance fit and squeezing them in, but then they'd fit without alterations assuming they're centred in both cases
FFS, Ok I promise I'll open all 4 holes equally, ok?

You can put them on upside down if you like, I don't mind, I just dont see how they centre up if you only enlarge 2 holes lol
Fiat discs are not thick enough, you need 280mm Meriva ones.
No need to re-drill or spigot rings and they are the right thickness, I had them on my corsa and worked fine with 288 calipers.

HUGE improvement over the old 256 setup

I've run fiat discs for however long now and had no issues whatsoever. Just drilled out each hole by 1mm. No spigot rings either, although that does mean they need a little effort to hold in place when putting the wheels on (once on, the bolts hold them central)
Aren't Meriva's 5 stud?
No they're 4 stud. Another alternative so.
there are also 4stud MK4 astras, but I dont know what brake options there are for those (might be worth looking on www.needforspeed.co.uk (http://www.needforspeed.co.uk) as they have great spec lists for stuff like brakes)

Come in both 4 and 5 stud. I think its the 1.7CDTi that has a 4 stud option, 280x25mm
I dont run spigots on my fiat discs
Merivas could be a winnah so!
Rep to all!
I never opened out the holes on my Fiat disks and can still get the bolts in fine.

I've decided to go this route, have you done anything with the brake pads or just left them as they are?
Also, do you find a notable difference?
No, didn't have to do anything to the pads, but you obviously need to use correct ones for the caliper (288, 284 etc).
And at first you don't notice the difference but once they're bedded in they are MUCH better than 2.0 ones.
just for future reference, fiat 284mm disks also come on fiat bravo 20v, brava 20v and mareaea 20v, and alfa 146/7 twin sparks.
/\ Bravo and Brava items are also a lot cheaper for the same disc. ;)
