Please only people who have done the conversion or been actually involved.

I have engine, box, loom brain. I know I need an SPI/MPI tank and pump.

I trying to work out if the SRI clocks I have will have the VSS or not?

Also is it the c16se manifold I need to allow it to bolt to my exhaust system?

C16SE exhaust wont bolt up no iirc, C16XE should tho, but its never right from memory. I bodged mine there so can help.

Your SRi clocks WONT have a VSS, as that is on the gearbox end.

Just another thing, I hope you have the imobliser stuff too?

Sorry, I meant XE not SE lol. Yea I have the immobiliser stuff too.

How do I get the mechanical speedo working?

VSS from a Nova SPI/Early corsa SPI.

They have the normal mechanical connection at the top but still have the 3 wires for the sensor.
Tried to find a pic but cant find one, Will get one in five mins as im keeping a spare for my next project :)

I've looked at the wiring diagrams in the Haynes Manual and it doesn't mention a VSS?

He must be lying.... VSS might be what all the forum jockeys have named it, Its a pulse taken from the ABS system or a gearbox speed sensor to tell the ECU & any other car related gubbins (eg EPAS) wether you are stationary or on the move. :thumb:

Haynes call it vehicle speed sensor from memory?

And heres what it looks like

For obvious reasons Haynes wiring diagrams dont include the immobiliser system.... lol

The vss goes to the immobiliser pickup....

And ive done a x16 conversion if you need any advice... :)

VSS is stil in the haynes iirc though ad, as ofc on later corsas its the speedo pickup.

Yes it is

Oh wait, it's called a road speed sensor in the Haynes Manual for the Nova, sneaky sneakersons!!!

So how does it work? Is it driven by the gearbox and then provide drive to the speedo cable?

AlexW

Yeah, normal speedo cable just screws into the top, the bottom just screws onto the gearbox. Simple!

Sweet! Ok so all that I need now is a c16XE manifold, RSS from an spi and a fuel tank with a return fuel line and a fuel pump?

Seems so!

Fuel pump wise, make sure you figure that out right as to weather you have a intank pump from a mk3 astra MPI, or use a external pump (i personally run internal, prefer it)

MPi fuel pump

You can keep the x16 manifold, but need a c16xe downpipe if you want to try and fit it to a nova system.

Or if you are handy with the welder, just chop the x16xe downpipe and join it to whatever exhaust system you are running.

If you want to bodge it, use a flexi and cut off the flanges and just use that, i done similar but cocked it up, works though!

Ah so I only need the c16xe downpipe? It bolts onto the x16xe manifold ok?

See I was thinking of getting a 4 branch for a c16xe lump . . . .

Bolts up fine.

The best manifold to get for these engines is a 4-2-1, as a 4-1 puts more torque up the top end, which is a bad thing to do on this engine!
The standard exhaust isnt that bad anyway!

Oh as for the fuel pump, my nova was fitted with an electric FSE pump and regulator, do you think that it will be suitable.
