Im moving my battery to the boot, do i need a battery box or are they just recommended?? Whats the best type of box to use and how are they mounted?
Loads choice of battery boxes available, not all people use them but i think they look tidier.
Mine is mounted in the rear wheel well, just bolted in through the floor.
can just see there:

id get it in a box aswell looks much tidier!!
ill be using an alloy one, like a tray with sides and clamp across the top, prefer the look of those than the bulky boxes. rally design do those too.
idealy you'll want a nice looking battery aswell. lol

I've just relocated mine, well, a couple of weeks ago.
I bought a Plastic Box for it - from a Motorsport Specialist (http://www.ac-carparts.com/)
One word of advice passed on to me from my Uncle, who used to compete in Rallying, was to ensure there was still a method of clamping the Battery down, even within the Box, as he had experienced his first relocated Battery in an old Mk1 Escort, ripping the GRP Box from its bolts and throwing the battery across the boot when he had an accident - he had it just sat in the Box with no clamp. The weight of a Battery being moved suddenly is likely to shear mounts without a clamp.
Heres my install in pictures;

All I need to do is sort out a capable Fuse/Circuit Breaker incase of any shorting issues.
Still, no problems yet, managed Combe alright yesterday too...
Find a BMW in a breakers and remove the whole live lead and there is a built in breaker inline as well.

Hi bud.
They are just rear van panels and mrk 1 boot panels with audio carpet from Halfauds stuck on them.
As for the seat belt its a second back up to the bolts that went through the floor.
