Right first time doin this as my previous nova had most of the work done before i got it but now I have the privelidge of doin my own work.
Right basically its a 1.2i nova spin absolutely bog standard (right down to 4 speed F10 and original tape deck) when i bought it and needing a small amount of welding/filling on the rear arches but other than that is solid.
So far Ive fitted a set of TSW 5 spoke wheels with 215/40/17 tyres on front and 205/40/17 tyres on rear. Ive also fitted the obligitary CD player as the original tape deck just isnt goin to cut it. Takin delivery of a centre console soon to tidy the gear stick area up and to prepare it for hopefully a full 4 door leccy window set up.
Future plans incude colour coded rear bumper and colour coded GSi front bumper, 40mm lowering front and rear, small spoiler nothing garish, digi dash, relocation of the wing mounted aeriel, blue grey SRi seats and sun visors, more stereo upgrades like rear speakers maybe sub in boot, full remote central locking alarm and immobiliser setup, upgrade to F13 5 speed box and hoopefully at some point an engine uopgrade although not sure what upgrade will happen at the moment. And thats about all off the top of my head will get pics up shortly so anyone whos interested can see how its goin and it would be brilliant to hear anyone elses opinions on it.

Plenty of Spin 4dr's about mate :) Looks cool though!
Nice little nova.. looks like my bf's when he got his.
your want to lower it 60/100mm to sit nicely on 17's 40mm just isnt enough. :)

well at the moment its got all 4 original wheels and a plethara of other bits in the boot and the back and is on a slight mound so needs to be on level ground and empty to get a better idea of how its sitting but when i put it on the road itll have a kid and all his stuff in it so dont want it so low that it scrubs when it goes over all the speed bumps that are dotted around here

right quick update sourced some parts for it and just waitin for a clear day to get them fitted and get some more pics up big thanks to benw456 for sortin me out with some 2.0 brakes, digidash, m3 mirrors clear side repeaters, bonnet lifters and fuel cap and thanks to let_nova for his help with th gsi front bumper hopefully now all the body parts can be fitted and the whole car can go off to the bodyshop to get a nice fresh coat of paint
m3 mirrors - Dont do it :)
Are you welding on new rear arches? prob not worth spraying it unless you are.
& you want to take out the petrol filler neck & treat the rust behind as the more doors love to rust there.
dj_wudgey
25-04-10, 09:44 PM
dont fit m3 mirrors dude there ghey lol but yea looks tidy enough mate!!
tommy8252
25-04-10, 10:05 PM
to be honest the actual arches aint rotten just a bit of surface rust so ive sanded it back to metal rust treated it and sprayed back up but there are some spots that need welding so may just weld some new ones in while im at it and yes one of those spots is the filler neck. And on the m3 mirrors dont quite know what im doing with them so think ill trial fit them and see what happens i know there slightly tacky but always thought they added a more curvey look to the very square angular look of the nova
dj_wudgey
25-04-10, 10:31 PM
the square anhular look is what makes novas bud get them ebay'd you know you want to lol

Sorry dude, iknow ea h to their own n that but this could turn
into an epic failure !! Ditch the M3 mirrors, ditch that spoiler 100% IMO ! Tbf tho mate, it's cleaner than alot I have seen about , and you should use that to ur advantage, :) u do it ur way tho dude , it's ur motor :)
Please put that spoiler in the bin
ditch the chav bits asap, that rot is common on mk2 4 drs, as the bumper traps mud badly. not hard to repair, if youn use the top of the bumper as a line, cut just below and weld new metal in. the bumper covers your join.
dj_wudgey
14-05-10, 07:48 PM
is say the same as the rest the chavy bits will ruin it!!
tommy8252
14-05-10, 07:55 PM
m3 mirrors have already gone and the spoiler isnt attached like i say got given it and sat it on to see what it was like just happened to be sat on when i took the picture i thought it was too high/round to suit the car but something similar is goin on but its gonna be flatter to line up with the back of the boot and lower
as said get rid of the chavy vectra spoiler, If you do want a spoiler go for one off a belmont, early bmw or i believe a pug 309 gti spoiler fits.
rust doesnt look to bad most is just surface which needs treating & painting, the rear just needs a little new metel. job done. dont forget to treat the rust around that petrol cap. :)
dont worry about that rot, cant fail the mot having a hole there
that rots standard on loons lol

looks pretty clean as far as saloons go, Personally I'd get rid of the wheels though - they're way to big in comparison to the rest of the car and will make it handle really badly.

right been messin around with the car and made a few changes. Firstly investigated the rot a bit further and now have welded new plate in to the rear quarter behind the bumper two more patches one in front of the drivers side spring cup at the rear and one a bit further forward in the inner arch all have had all rot and rust cut out back to good metal another patch on the front drivers side jacking point. I have also welded new sills in both sides and have 2 new rear arches to go in. All surface rust on panels sanded back to metal treated with anti rust primer and sprayed back to glacier white using a rattle can untill i can get it to my spray guy for a full respray. The wheels have been changed for some 15inch alloys currently black but having them sprayed white i think. The rear 60 springs are being changed for -80 items and the fronts are being changed for a pair of fk coilovers i have sitting about. All badges and stickers have been removed and polished/cleaned/smoothed front gsi bumper fitted awaiting laguna splitter to be fitted. All interior fully cleaned up. Will get pics up of its current state when im at a computer. Also purchased a e16se engine loom etc etc and this will be going in to replace the 1.2 lump thats in it currently in the next week or 2.

Right not updated for a while so Ill give you a quick run down of whats been done and give you some pics to look at. After all the small patches had been welded up I got some new sills and rear arches and welded them in. Replaced the wheels again to some 15" multispokes, Lowered it to -80mm, added the gsi front bumper which was the wrong shade of white and fairly knackered ( all vertical slats missing and bumper carrier retaing clips were all broke so resprayed glacier white with a rattle can outside my flat and bodged it on for the time being with cable ties. Dropped in the e16se and wired it up got it all up and running. Had to replace the whole rear axle (due to rot through one half of it causing monumental negative camber on one rear wheel) with one with an anti roll bar. Rebushed and rebuilt the whole front suspension (TRE, Bottom arms< strut tops etc etc). Added a vented laguna splitter to the GSi bumper. Replaced standard e16se head with what was to was a CS15 head but upon inspection appears to be a CS10 head as it is not running oversize valves (no big deal really) and added a high lift kent cam along with some bosch super 4 plugs and 10mm electric blue HT leads. While at this I also fully serviced it and replaced the timing belt and tensioner pulley. Treat it to a brand new powerflow exhaust system. Currently the car is at the spray shop having the arches and sills smoothed and a full respray along with having the wing mounted aerial removed. Wheels are also being resprayed same colour as car (brilliant white). Heres the pics (lots of):

so thats how it stands now. A few more changes are going to happen firstly the addition of a vernier pulley to the high lift cam, found some centre caps and nuts and fit the recently purchased gsi sideskirts (going to cut and fit two front sections for each side) also need to add some bumper pinstripes. Unsure of what colour to do the skirts and the pinstripes choice of satin black or white for the skirts and blue or black for the pinstripe.

Thanks for the comments guys glad you like it (makes putting up with my missus, family and friends ribbing me, worth it lol). Paint work isn't perfect but for the whole car and wheels sprayed for £500 I'm not complaining. I've also replaced the door cards from the white/grey items to some grey (same colour and material as the dash) items with black handles, pockets etc.

Almost a 'Type-R' look going on with all-white alloys etc. Was the spoiler off an R8 400 (the first-generation)?

No off the later ones was looking for a 220gti spoiler but settled for that one instead and loving it now
This is very nice mate. There's not many 4dr's I like, but yours is smart!
There's a 216/220 GTi in one of my local yards. I know they're getting very hard to find now. I was amazed just to see one lol. Still want the spoiler or are you settled on your 400 job? It suits perfectly IMO.
tommy8252
09-02-11, 11:28 AM
Settled on the one I've got now I agree that it suits perfectly
I used to have 2 220 gti's but unfortunately both went to scrap
Thats a very nice example.. I love 4 door loons when there done right :)

Added a vernier pulley to the engine setup and taking it up to jdm today to get it rolling roaded and setup properly and also looking at getting a mapable piggy back ecu to help with getting the most out of its current setup
nova gsi ian
12-03-11, 12:57 PM
looking good fella, however i prefer it with out the spoiler, also in the pics it shows the nova parked up on grass?....i would not do that, the moisture will eat away at your metal, will rust well quick sitting on grass
tommy8252
12-03-11, 07:49 PM
No longer on the grass I moved it very quickly after discovering the hole in bottom of the rear quarter.
And as for the dyno run, I didn't like It much due to the fact it only made 107bhp because I have a dodgey tappet and my mass air flow meter is leaning off the fuel mix when the engine is at running temp so gotta get a new one and replace the tappets. But once that's done I'll take it back up and hopefully it should be putting out a good 120bhp
tommy8252
24-03-11, 08:07 AM
Well after the disappointing dyno run and my crankshaft oil seal giving up I decided to just buy another engine. New engine is the group n rally engine from dannysp, e16se with chipped and mapped ecu. Will be getting a port polished big valve head, my high lift cam and vernier pulley, new gaskets, pump, belt and bolts, l&b flywheel, solid lifters.
Also while the engine is out I'm going to clean and polish the engine bay and paint the engine and box black with white inlet manifold, rocker cover, afm, 4-1 manifold and dizzy and I'll also be painting the strut brace white and cleaning the header and washer bottles.
Also replacing the front spax shocks and 80mm spring setup with some gaz front coilovers.
I'm hoping to have all this done by the time I take it over to Germany in may.
Just read through this thread and I'm glad you changed the wheels looks million times better top job lad!
tommy8252
10-05-11, 08:28 AM
Well thought I'd update a little, after putting the group n engine in I've had a few set backs. The rings in the engine gave out with a few weeks to go till the treffen so sourced another bottom end and got it fitted last weekend but this weekend I lost the sump plug on the m6 along with all the oil so got a replacement plug and more oil and carried on my journey to blackpool with out incident. On the return leg though it started tapping and by the time I got to services to check it it was blot worse and was evident that it was big ends :( so returned home on an aa wagon. Now sourcing another bottom end.
Aside from the engine troubles I have bought a twin 40 setup which will get fitted after the treffen (if I make it in time, its gonna be close I go next Tuesday) as well as an ast2 cam.
Had the coilovers reconned by gaz and now cleaning up the threads and trying to remove the seized locking screw from one of them.
Also added finless skirts which are going to be colour coded to the car.
That's about all for now will update with any further changes/mishaps lol
