I don't know if this has been posted on here? bast4rds. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8632440.stm)

So much for average speed cams not being used in permanent installations.

When will it end?! :(

similar to what i thought was going to happen. i recon the police will soon be hacking into your satnav to track you speed

Like a lot of people, I will never buy a new car if they start coming with built in trackers etc. Not much danger of them coming with speed limiters though :/

Unreal.

tbh I'm all for heavy speed restrictions in towns/cities, but only if they get relaxed a little out in the countryside/motorways.

I bet a car hitting a kid at 20mph will still screw their day up.

L14MNP
21-04-10, 12:29 PM
That's the thing. They say dropping all residential limits to 20mph will save X number of lives per year, how long until some genius works out that halving it again will cut deaths even more. Or just ban cars from almost everywhere, but still have us pay through the nose for the so called privelage of ownership.

Welcome to Britain, 2020. :wtf:

I have read that the emergency services are trying to scrap speed bumps in favour of a lower speed limit. I could live with that. :)

but dropping 30 down to 20 everywhere will be taking the piss lol

They'd never drop the speed limit to 20 in urban areas - increased fuel consumption, noise, pollution etc would get the hippies in an epic tizz.

TBH you can still kill someone at 20mph. And I've only got to look out at the main road now to see cars doing 35-40mph in a 30 zone, drop that to 20 and they'll still be doing 35-40 lol

As for the GPS average speed cameras, psh. Could they prove GPS was THAT accurate? Like to within inches?

dj_wudgey
21-04-10, 02:43 PM
im with the above i dnt think gps could be that acurate and let them drop all 30 no one wil take note of that!

Pete

Outside my house we have them flashing things to tell you to slow down to 30mph, (before its a 40 zone) and i swear that everytime it flashes someone to slow down they feking speed up. but then they get greeted with 4 speed bumps going up the road :) justice done lol

Nope lol keep old reg plates from previous cars youve scrapped. Or turn a random letter upside down when buying new plates from the local market :thumb:

I used to have upside K's on my SR & 1.6SRi :) barely noticable TBH.

is it worth more fines/trouble etc tho, realy ?

and if its barely noticeable maybe you should be surrendering your driving license untill you get glasses lol

Not noticable to look at, unless you sit & stare at it. But unrecognisable to a camera Draper.

I never had any trouble with it at all.

If these cameras have sattelite fed reg plate recognition, then surely they can be used as ANPR's as well as speed cameras, and catch a lot more twints with no tax MOT or insurance.

If that was the case, i'd probably be behind them, because ultimately that should curb the rising insurance premiums by catching more freeloaders.

If its anything like a digital gatso, it'll ping up an error and a human operator will be required to check the image.

dj_wudgey

as above it will most likely be checked like by some one f*ck them and there camera's!

How does an upsidedown K etc confuse the cameras? They're still getting looked at by someone who will be able to read it?!

Maybe missing something :chin

ok, so you have to average the national speed limit..... ther are tons of roads where managing a 60mph average would be a damned good drive

I have seen someone get away with having their plate on upside down. [edit] (its still illegal though, the road vehicles doobrey whatsit for reg plates says it has to be vertical or something, in this case vertical means upright, which means the right way up)

To be fair though, the policeman was distracted by lynz at the time. Who was pouting and wearing his hat. lol
