Was on the way back from work with some white monstrosity in my rear view mirror, climbing over my bumper (I was in the saloon - c20xe for reference) ...

I kindly moved over and didnt back off (bearing in mind I wasnt going silly speeds having just got on the road) and it passed me much quicker than I thought....

Having owned a few of these (pun intended) over the years - I was suprised at this 59 plater (Championship is it?) was quite nifty...

I expected to leave him behind tbh...(heavy and piffling 197bhp arent they?)

I subsequently went home and thought about fitting a let ;-)

hmm.. time to check health on ur xe..? or i guess u need to be unrestricted then try again..
of course the type r could always be stripped/modified slightly..?

id say the same as above ive drove a few new type r's and thought they were poo!

Championship white FN2's aren't available over here, or so I was told. Although I've seen more than a couple. Were the wheels white too?

If they're JDM only, maybe it has a few extra horses.

Will F
20-04-10, 06:03 PM
Yep it was all white (wheels an all)

Nowt wrong with the engine I dont think revs nice and crisp and no oil loss etc (I did obv think that at first)

It wasnt stripped and thought that those lumps werent very tunable - unless of course it had the charger kit fitted... (although it wasnt that fast! lol)

dj_wudgey
20-04-10, 06:30 PM
its not the engine its just there to heavy to the old ones which makes them poo!

let ftw!

20-04-10, 06:51 PM
Those have a LSD, 198bhp/142lb ft and 18's. I think the differential is the only difference between those and a regular Type-R GT.

Saloony
20-04-10, 06:54 PM
Thought the white ones were alittle bit more special than that?

*Dave*
20-04-10, 06:55 PM
my old redtop that was in my gsi used to beat them new type'r sheds............ so the honda must of been modified.

muzzy
20-04-10, 06:56 PM
There may be more to it than that, I can't remember anything else they have extra off the top of my head.

Saloony
20-04-10, 06:58 PM
I know they had the white jdm saloons imported in. And was bloody sure the white hatches had something about them too.

The Civic Type R’s 200HP 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine is now mated with a Limited Slip Differential that promises to sharpen the car’s handling and driving dynamics. According to the company’s officials, the special edition Civic Type-R Championship White with the LSD managed to shave 1.44 seconds off the standard car’s time around Honda’s test track in Tsukaba, Japan.

As well as the distinctive white paint finish and the LSD, the special edition Civic Type R also sports 18-inch white alloy wheels, a contrasting smoke chrome finish on the badges, door handles, fuel lid and front grille along with an exclusive Type R plaque. Sales are expected to begin in Europe from the end of the year.

That's all I can find with regards to spec of them.

Saloony
20-04-10, 07:01 PM
Well failing all that, it has a charger straped to it then lol

muzzy
20-04-10, 07:05 PM
It must have been tuned in some way shape or form, having driven a few of the new style Type-R's they just don't feel amazingly fast, I think they are too big and heavy. Mugen have managed to get 237bhp from the 2.0 engine in the 'Mugen Civic Type-R' but they have made a good few changes to the engine to achieve that.

Im sure as per the JDM EP3 Type Rs, the FN2 JDM's have a revised gearbox & diff combo?

If you fit a LET, it wont even be worth racing. Its comical how quickly you can pass a Type R.

makes an xe feel like a 1.2 did when you first drove an xe slow and wowfully inadiquate lol

Not that hard to drive really.
Rev fcuk out of it and hit 9k rpm in every gear?

Pistol Pete
20-04-10, 09:56 PM
Exactly! In the words of Clarkson (or was it May?)...floor it, wait for the valves/pistons etc to dance on the bonnet and then change gear!!

Mieran
20-04-10, 09:56 PM
My XE'd Corsa kept up with a standard FN2, and when I went against my mates EP3 he only gets ahead after 70. EP3 goes better imo, but hes modified it a bit.

That was in a Corsa sport (full of un-wanted electrics lol), full calibra leather interior, V6 brakes (they are very heavy ) and a restrictive 1.75" exhaust system.

20-04-10, 10:21 PM
I'm not sure on the weight of the new one, but i remember racing the older honda type R in the mazda familia (4wd 200BHP standard) which was faster than the xe nova i had and it was nowhere to be seen till we got to 3 digits on the private road, it was deceptively fast to be honest, but i guess the new civic type R has abit more weight to it

stevei
20-04-10, 10:29 PM
the FN2 in champ white is a special run as noted in other posts. The main difference is the LSD. white paint and wheels. instead of chrome handles and filler flap it had a darker ones. there alright i pref the earlier EP3 type r. There was also a special run of the last S2000's made that where white with dark wheels. they are cool.

Personally having driven loads of type r's tuned and standard. an XE nova will defo beat a standard FN2 TR. By the time the Vtecs kicked in the Nova's gone. the only way it could beat you is if he was already in vtec and you had to change down. he may have had legs on you that way mate.

( i work at a honda main dealer btw )

^ The Japs always copy in some respect. lol

EK9 Type R FTW. n00bs will tell owers that they aren't proper Type R's though, as they only 'came out' on the EP3 shape. lol

Same as my mates Accord wasn't a proper one as 'they don't make them'.

Gotta love it.

An XE Nova stars in "omg my car isn't as fast as I thought it was" shocker? lol

Thing is, 15 years ago when XE Novas were still a bit special & the engines were worth a grand, they were pretty damn quick & raw. You could play with Cossies & what have you. Now a car like a n/a 2.0 Civic that probably weighs more than a Saphire Cosworth could beat it out the box.

People are building more & more bonkers spec Novas (& cars in general) & a 20 yr old XE with interstellar mileage in its piston rings doesnt quite spin the globe backwards anymore.

As for Hondas, I find they have an advantage in that because they rev so high, the gear change is usually after whatever cars they are racing & carry that advantage, coupled to the fact they only really move well when utterly abused, ie raced. lol

Mieran
20-04-10, 11:58 PM
£35k iirc, no thanks lol

I rather get a DC5 or S2000 and supercharge it

lol and some of teh replies - I have been around Nova XE's/LETs etc to know their performance and claimed performace etc - I was merely making an observation that clearly has sparked some comedy debate! ;)

It may well have been that I was in 5th and he had dropped a cog into the V Devil - ah well I managed to get over it and stomped a Crossfire :tard: on the way in today so feel better!

The White were usually JDM spec imports but arent thet available in the UK now?
the local young lad who owns the village chippy has one, his is modified already and very quick

ive never driven an XE nova, you here all these stories of this ones quicker than that one, i rememeber driving the doner car my lump came from and it seamed pretty healthy so fingers crossed and i always have my evo to back me up incase someone smokes me and pisses me off at the same time lol, if he then smokes that its = more money more horses or buy R34 GT- R , all result in win

my original type r was quick, but having driven thar Fiat 500 Arbarth Essesse a couple of weeks ago with a supposed 160BHP it didnt seem that fast

MattBrown
21-04-10, 10:08 AM
The only thing making the nova xe so quick is the lack of weight.

Like we kept up with a b16b 190bhp civic, in a 120bhp 106 gti, purely on wieght issues.

To 70mph obvcourse:)

you lot seem to be forgetting that once moving and already up to a reasonable speed, eg. 70mph, then the weight issue makes pretty much feck all difference! its more down to aerodynamics and horsepower, therefore the civic wins!!

55mph and above, air resistance becomes a greater drag than the road.

My mate just bought a Type R EP3 (54 Plate) At least I think it's an EP3. We had a race first from standing start I humped him. Second from rolling 30 mph and again I humped him. Then from 60 and again dum dum dum I humped him. Granted that V-tech is pretty bulliet proof I find most type-r's are driven by ****s that think the are the fastest things in the universe and that fitting a K&N and some wind deflectors gives them 400bhp pml. I was shocked and I mean shocked when he took me for a spin that a supposed £8000, 197bhp car was so slow and felt so tacky inside, my Nova was £1400 and it's worth more with the cash i've spent and It's the balls :thumb:

JDM my ****.....Japslapping is what I call it lol

P.S If his engine blew I bet it wouldn't cost £300 for a new one and take a few hours to fix lol

Rant over lol
