Hartleys Nova Turbo Project

Bought a MK1 Nova it had 8000miles on when i first got it i seen it on pistonheads it looked very clean so went to view it in malton north yorkshire an old lady had it from brand new on used to go to the shops and back a few times a week i paid for it as soon as i seen it as it was in mint condition i got it for wot a thort was a very good price £570 got it back home ran it for a while the i put it in the garage as i got bord of driven it. my friend just got his nova turbo out on night he took me out in it and then i desided i was goning to put a turbo lump in it so a few late nights in the garage getting it striped to a bare shell.my dad seam welded the shell and he also fitted a harry hockley chassis plating kit.then it got left for a year now am just getting in the mood for starting it again i want to get the shell all sorted i have bought all brand new Genuine panels such as Doors, bonnet, Mk1 Wings, Boot am going to get the shell ready for painting in the next few monts not sure what colour to go for yet as i like the astra vxr blue and the ferrari red that on Nick Jacksons old red nova i will get the pics up shortly so yous can all see my work so far

it stayed like that for 6 month then started working onthe shell the front inner wheel well was all striped down to the bare metal then primed thankfully there was no rust and while all the paint was off me dad welded a harry hockley plating kit on

me dad started to seam weld the shell

then next up i fully seam sealed and gravitexed the full inner wheel wells for a bit of protection

Ive seen and heard of this guy buying the necessary parts to build the car properly so I think Im right in saying it will be a good one! Looking forward to watching the progress Hartley.

If its a mk2 go for "Hardon Blue" (Arden Blue)

If its mk1 go for red, dont copy though, as theres no point really:thumb:

Am going to try and work on it as much as i can now cause the hot weathers coming hoping for the shell to be painted in the next couple of months then the full car ready by christmas carnt wait for next years shows

Nice mate the novas looking good! And ive got two new gm pannels a sr bootlid vinyl and a new sr front bumper but you hit the motherload there!

Are the doors on that shell rusty then ?
Or you just got all the new panels for spares ?

Opel classic parts on german eBay have new sr front bumpers.

I agree Will. Maybe its rusty in places you cannot see in the pictures:confused:

Also why fit the strengthening kit when your going to remove the cross member?

the shell is in mint condition no rust at all in the shell and all the panels are good aswell but i am using the blue doors, bonnet, on my white nova. as i want the shell 110%. as i am taking this project as far as i can a thort it would be the right choice to buy all brand new panels for the shell. the crossmember is not geting changed just the slam panel as i am making it removable hopefully get some more updates up shortly

discoinferno - a thort to myself when a seen you ad bout you breaking your nova and the shell was the same colour and yours is all ready done all i would of needed to do was put my bits on and my engine in and its ready for the road but then i had a change i wanted to build something that i could say i built and it had to be 110% mint so its started now a just carnt wait to get it finished then all the hard days and nights in the garage will of paid off

not really mate if a see something that might come in handy or thats rare al buy it some of the parts i have are for a future project aswell so they will come in handy am planning to full restore a Nova Gsi after this project is finished

i now will be keeping my project. a bit more progress done to day took the old doors off and fitted the new ones also fitted the new wings as well they look ok and just ordered my F28 mount kit hopefully will be here next week thanks to VX Paul still need to cut the chassis leg for the alternator clearence and weld the slam panel on as i wont be changing the crossmember

because i want the shell 110% mint some of the panels i have aquired a will be keeping them as spare ones the original blue p/s wing has a little dint in so instead of getting it fixed a got hold of a brand new pair of Gm wings and i will be keeping the blue ones for a spare set and i will be using the blue doors for my white nova i have at the end of the day i will be putting a lot of money and time in to my project and i want every little detail perfect

I hope it's just the "bolt on" panels you are replacing then?

In my opinion if you start changing quarter panels, front panels etc on a car that doesn't need them, you'd be spoiling a car, and bringing on rust issues with welds etc........

am not changing the crossmember or rear quaters just doors, wings, bonnet, slam panel, also putting brand new Gm SR bumpers on it all my other panels are just for spare ones in case anything happens

the slam panel is getting welded on next weekend and the bonnet will be getting lined up and putt on just been to vauxhall and collected the rest of my new nuts and bolts for the front end ie crossmember bolts, bottom arm bolts

am still looking for a SR Front Bumper and a SR Grill but had no look sorcing a brand new one even germany hasnt got any left could any one help as with one must be in good condition

Small update -


Just bought a brand new GM windscreen still in the packet with tags and part number

Done a few hours last night got the engine bay down to the bare metal and primed
