Blame being a n00b a few years ago and not using it with the clear lense protectors. I never thought too much of it at the time as I wrongly assumed my dad had spares. lol

Does anyone know where I can get a new lense? Or even if that is the correct term.

It's from an (auto darkening) air fed ESAB Eyetech and is a kick a$$ helmet, so I don't want to replace it with eBay tat that may blind me/not last 5 mins lol.
The little bit of searching I have done, hints at the lense costing an absolute fortune, even the guys on welding forums say how extortionate the prices are - but does anyone know how much they actually are?

I have emailed ESAB asking them, and there is a couple helmets on the bay (second hand) that I am keeping an eye on, but would rather fix this one.

On the occasions I work on my Nissan project (rare at present) I am reluctant/not very good at stitching the thinner panels when wearing a regular non auto mask.

Little help?

if you bare in mind the rest of the helmet is just molded plastic then the majority of the cost is going to be within the lense

we threw ours out, when we found out it cost more for a new lense than it did for a mask

I know :( One can hope though lol. I was banking on it being an older design, so cheaper lenese kicking about if you get me.

Oh what a fool I am/was.

Cheers Mike. Will give them a shout. :thumb:

Sounds about right Mowgli. How did yours bite the dust, same deal?
The battery backup has even leaked in this one lol.

Southie, that's a link to the replaceable lense protectors I should have used! lol

I can't see well enough with a non auto job, and it annoys me when wanting to do anything other than spotting thin panels.

What (auto) mask do you guys use then?

Think you've probably already seen mine but:
http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/shop/esab-origotech.htm Haven't had chance to use it properly yet but it's comfortable and seems to flick dark quick enough to avoid blindness (found out it's actually triggered by my PC monitors strangely lol)

we never found out...... the pixies must have been doing a night shift, as we found it put back on its shelf with the gloves in it but shagged.......

we used to have that happen a lot, until a couple of workers were laid off, and the damage stopped.. the trouble was that my nova was in the back of the workshop at the same time & every single panel has dents from their little games

Looks ideal mate. lol @ monitors. Guess that's sensitive then! Just what you want I guess. I used some cheap a$$ thing at my mates unit when I patched upp his car and it was awesome, but It concerns me that something that was maybe circa £30 is responsible for shielding my eyes from Noah's arc. lol

I'm guessing it's something to do with the type of light rather than the intensity, as you can point it at a sunny window/household lightbulb etc and it's fine but it cowers behind the sofa when you point it at a relatively dull monitor lol

my mask was a cheap ebay jobbie and have welded for hours at a time and never had achey eyes or owt. the main difference i find between cheap and expensive ones is how clear they go when not welding.

The lens will cost around the same as a new auto darkening helmet

Just wear the helmet without the lens and squint.

At least your mouth and cheeks will be protected.

Thats what the welders at work do, they just wear blue or rose tinted glasses underneath it.

Ah, the advice of a pro .

So what's the point in the helmet if just wearing glasses? lol

Ben

exactly what you said!

They do flip the screen down when putting the cap of the weld on and need to make it look pretty lol

lol lol It was sound advice then.

Would've though H&S or the company wouldn't be too happy about that?!

The welders are gods, no one ****s with them or tells them what to do or they walk and the job doesnt get done.

Speedglass FTW! Had a 9000V for years and debating between switching to an adflo 9002X or waiting for an adflo helmet to be developed for the 9100
