e16 tappets

eventually got the engine to fire .Been told i should have drained the tappets before i put the new head on .It fires and almost starts then just cuts out after a few min turn it over and i get the same thing almost starting anyone had this problem.?

Dont think thats anything to do with the tappets mate altough they should have been drained before you refitted the head but it wont do it any harm in my opinion.

It wont stop it firing I dont think. They should have primed with oil by now if you have cranked it over as much as you say.

Yea true as craig said they should have primed by now mate.

turning it over with the plugs out for about 30 seconds should pump them up fine..
its more likely to be fuel or an electrical fault, is the cam timing right?

took the lifters out tonight and crushed them no differnce
