View Full Version : n00b question
Daft question but I've always wondered why when people strengthen their shell there are gaps between the welds instead of a continuous weld.
Example

If a continuous weld starts to split, it will continue to split all the way down the seam.
By stitching, it means if a crack appears, it will only split along the two inch stitch and then stop. They also ensure the shell still flexes a tad, because if the shell's too stiff, it can break apart easier.
I see what you mean Lee.
If its too hard it will be easier to break under hard use.
weighs less too, which is a bonus.
IIRC CP put about 2Kg of welding wire into Dans old shell but stitching

Looks to me like its been acid dipped and that has eaten some of the crusty metalwork, nothing a good welder wont fix though:thumb:
