Well, after looking at different project cars, and persuading the boss that it’s a “good idea” I found this forlorn little egg in the paper....

1996 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 hi-torq s-p-aiiiii of pure power, decent service history, no structural grot, and the best bit? It’s a jive-door...... :D
On the list of needed bit are:


A bonnet, as this one has been sat on by a drunken elephant...
4 doors, seen as the rust bug has nibbled the edges....
A bloody good valet, seen as it was used to transport a dog at some point...
And some new brakes, seen as the pedal just makes grinding noises....
Then the fun can begin. I’ve been collecting bits for a small block turbo for the last 4 months, and was kindly donated a c16se by markd89, after it decided that the basic point of an engine was beyond it. I.e. running....

Also collected on my search was a fappin’ large Volvo intercooler, and its 76mm pipes, and a 1.4 SR cam. Oh and I got a nice exhaust manifold flange off fleabay for a tenner. On the list of stuff I need are:

T25 turbo from a Saab, upullit have em for a fiver
A boost sensing fpr, though I have emailed a guy who knows how to turn an fse boost valve y0 into one....
Oil feeds and drains, I’m quietly hoping mike may be of help with this...
Rover 25 manifold. The ports match nicely the ones on the 1.6 and if turned upside down it makes a handy top mount style manifold.
A T25 flange (obviously)
Volvo b230ft motronic loom and ecu. This ecu is adaptive, and can see boost, and uses Bosch sensors. Plus it’s cheap. In theory it should run the c16se ok, suck it and see I guess.So this weekends plans? A trip to upullit, removal of the 1.4 (anyone want it? Ideal for a 1.2 spi upgrade...) and clean and start building the 1.6. pics soon....:thumb:

yeah beemers still here, its gonna be a tow car and leant to the in laws when they come over in july. the i.c is actually 2 inches taller than the slam panel, yet there is a brace inside the bonnet the when its chopped out will clear it. if it dont, ill just bulge the front with a hammer. meh lol

Right got some more done on this today.
having spoke to gibbo, I’ve swapped the 1.6 for a 2.0 8v and f18. simple reason being, he needed a 1.6 for insurance, i wanted to be greedy...
so got back home, and started stripping the motor. at some point it’s had a new head, and has been very well looked after. basically its getting cleaned and painted.

all done, just needs some coolant, and a crank sensor, as its not producing the correct signal for the ecu to lock onto. happy days.

spud, no it ferkin dont. ive fitted a brand new sensor, and its still got no spark. wiring is fine, ecu is powering up, and there is a feed at the coil wires, so its either coil or ecu being stupid and cutting the feed...... upullit on sat for some bits. ******* car..... shoulda bought a vxr motor and minced with that for a bit, then given up.... lol

well, i got a nice ecu from a h reg carlton, and a fuel pump relay too. fitted em, whacked the half flat battery on for a giggle, and suprise suprise....

Sloth, how'd you get the engine clean enough to paint it? Also, what wheels is it gonna be wearing? I've just nearly finished my Corsa B project as well, few little things to sort and thats it.

easy, i used thinners mate, as it evaporates off. then use a dry brush to brush any leftover muck off. its going on 17 inch white 5 spokes, pic is on page 2 or 3 or 15 inch steelies for the strip.

Lenzos? Na mate, they really wont work regardless of the et49, I've had Lenzos on mine, had to take them off. **** it, I'm running Comps on mine, 6.5x15 with et49 and 205 tyres and the rears catch under acceleration. lol

hmmm. theyre et49, and they have narrow section 205/40/17's. i ran em on my nova fine. i may roll/trim the arches though. if i can get a mint set, astra sport steelies would be great, its finding the ****s...

I've a set of Anthracite ones here, you could have them if you were closer. lol

Corsa arches are ****e and cant be flattened or widened or even trimmed, all you can do is jack them out, then the plastic arches wont fit right and it'll kink your outer wings.

small update, i now have everything to finish this, apart from the frekin black dash and seats, as the captives on the seats uncaptivated themselves. so theyre still in the breakers. the nice mister said he'd cut them out tho, so i'm happy. full back interior for £30. cant complain.

little update:

fitted the single v alt, and bottom pulley, swapped 2 door cards for black ones, fitted my cold air feeds, and finished the wiring.
the fuel pump relay isnt energising when i turn the key but it switches when i feed the right wire (red/blue) which is wired up to the right wire. its totally confused me...

need to fit my bilstein susp, and get my proper bolts for the pulley from autovaux, oh and cut and weld my exhaust if i can get it to separate the cat from the centre section......
not far now, will be done by next sunday.

When you turn on the ignition or when you crank, because the pump only primes on crank.

I think I know whats wrong with it. There is a blue wire coming out of the engine loom yes? Try hooking that up to the pump instead. I had the same problem when I did Steve's SEH, and on jacks early XE loom.

You need to run 15" Astra G steels, un hubcapped. You can run V6 Vectra Calipars and 280mm Meriva 4 stud discs behind them no problem.

update, my lovely calibra heated cow has been fitted to the corsa rear seat backrest, and the seats have had the nova gte runners taken off. tania kindly got to work with the leather feed and polish and it now looks like new. just need to sew the 1 inch split on the drivers bolster up, and boot black the worn edge. happy days. fitted tomorrow.

small update, it now starts on the key, there was a break in a wire behind the fuel pump relay. its still fighting me tho, it starts and ides perfect but wont rev. as soon as i try it dies. thread in mech....

Good luck getting the backs to fit right, took me ages to get them nice, if your using the standard Cally rear base, youll need cable ties lol (thats how mines held down, and it passed its MOT liek that!), and dont expect to be winding down your rear windows in a hurry, as the winders foul the sponge :thumb:

That back is a pain to get in aswell, the sponge is too big for the Corsa, so it wont sit right back into the locking tabs, youll be kicking yourself Rob lol

Any problems fitting it give me a shout, ill lend a brain cell or two :thumb:

EDIT:- What did you use on the seats? they look like new!

kissey dave, i swapped the leather and foam from the cally seats onto a 1 peice corsa back, which it fits perfectly. the base is tie wrapped in. tania makes orthotic footwear for a living and has some natural shoe polish that also feeds the leather. thats just 1 coat btw. i use an old sock, like a glove and just got busy with it. :thumb: mums offered to sort the split in the drivers seat after pvs. she was an upholsterer and seamstress.....:d

update.
put some fuel in it, and it fired straight away. and revved fine. then i noticed the oil pressure light on. oh noes, so i looked at the engine bay, revved it at the throttle body and the bottom end is knocking. like a ****. so i looked at the dash, revved it to 4k and it goes out, but as soon as you let off it comes back on, at which point i shut it off, packed up and came inside. i have no idea and tbh i dont care.:witch::mad::mad::mad::cry:
