Well OK

Im not...

Im just back online with them as my provider, i wouldn't of normally used them as there quite crap, but there the only ones who offer broadband without a phone line, so no line rental as it's through mega quick fiber optic cable :thumb:

No i may be on some more again, and might get some ****e sold etc. lol

Thats only the limit of what those 2 technologies can carry, not your actual interwebs speed, type in broadband speed test to google and run it :)

not bad at all on the download! upload seems rather slow in comparison.

edit: I found the service in terms of cutting out etc crappy when we had virgin at uni mind

Just looked on the site and they compare other providers and there all about 0.4, 0.5 then BT Say's 0.8

I thought mine was crap, on an 8mb line I manage 3.9mbps

sounds about right then :thumb: I know upload is always much slower, just seemed tiny in comparison... plenty quick connection although I've just realised why it seemed crazy fast to me, it's probably in kilo bits per second rather than bytes, as is common to do with isps to make it sound faster, mine comes out at 14940 download and 0.96 upload, equates to a max of about 1.4mb/s on an actual download in real terms :thumb:

Meh, it's faster then it was at my parent house, and it's cheaper so im not fussed..

If you find it too slow at ~1.4mb/s I suggest you download shorter porn movies, no one ever gets past the first 5 minutes anyway lol

Don't forget for actual throughput there are overheads etc.

Example:
I'm on an 8Mb (megabits) line
The max speed I can obtain is 8Mb, due to restrictions in the exchange.
My actual line speed is ~3.9Mb (megabits) = 0.488MB (megabytes) = 499KB (kilobytes)
This is my actual connection rate - the further you are from the exchange, the slower your connection rate. I'm around 6km wire length from my exchange.
My actual throughput speed is around the 2.8Mb (megabit) rate = 350KB (kilobyte).
Each packet of data sent contains a myriad of header and routing information, hence why only about 1/5th of the incoming traffic is actual data. This is the speed that places like speedtest.net report to you.

I just got 1.95Mb(its)ps = 0.244MB(ytes)ps up; 765Kb(its)ps up = 95KB(ytes)ps. Bit slow tonight, router has connected at 2467Kbps up and 955Kbps down. 19ms ping though

Whoever said computers were easy? lol
