View Full Version : Shell strength!
Just a random question really.
Say you stuck a c20xe into a nova and you didnt stitch the bay up but it was solid with no rot how long would it last before ripping itself apart assuming it would?
Damo.

Think It depends how you drive it and the power ofthe engine really, maybe a year before you start to see signs of it coming away.
Standard XE? I wouldnt be surprised if it was absolutely fine tbh.
Mark Watts purple courtney turbo nova was never stiched and was fine. All depends how you drive it really.
Then again a track car (2ltr xe solid mounts) i would stich it.

Even a 1600 on solids I would stitch!
Its upto you, srs-1 drives like a bad chav on the track, and his is unwelded, and is still really really solid.
Personally I had to weld mine, as the shell wasnt the best

I've done that on mine just to be on the safe side really, couldn't be arsed taking the car to bits again to weld up something that could of been done in the first place.
Weld it I say just for piece of mind.
I stitched mine up before i fitted the XE but dont think my welds were the best as i was on a learning curve lol only my second attempt at welding tbh but they say pratice makes perfect. Was just wondering how long it would last without just incase my welds were really that bad that thay didnt hold its a daily so never sees the track or owt and it dosnt really get abused only every so often when i feel the need and its only a stock XE.

i had my complete bay done and a HH strengthening kit fitted to my XE, as i thought whilst its out and was always lead to believe its the best thing to do
Yea trouble is with these threads you will always get different opinions off different people but i was just curious tbh my mate fitted an XE into his g reg mk1 but the person who welded it didnt stitch it they fully seamed it up from top to bottom and it ended up cracking the crossmember after a year as it was so stiff but he did kick its head in everywere he went mind :tard: .

mine isnt welded and its been big blocked for 8 years started with standard xe then 196bhp engine and now has a phase 3 let and trust me it gets used first time i met lee was at the fast show a few years back at the pod and i did 23 runs resulting in 2 outer cvs shearing in the hubs on the final run lol my shell is still fine

Lol yea thats how my alternator recess is done and theres bags off room think thats settled my nevers then knowing your running a LET without being welded so think my Standard XE will be fine then.

Theres a little bit of rot on the passenger chassis leg thats getting welded up but other than that its like new everywhere else even on the crossmember.

This thread is a little bit like saying "Do I need a rollcage with 300BHP?"
Strength gives more than shell life.
