View Full Version : Equal length shafts and small block

Can this be done on a 1300 or 1400 block? Thinking for the sport i'm building as it has got a fair amount of power and would help the torque steer, although not in the same league as a phase 3 LET any bit of help is useful.

Thoughts??

astra mk4 1800 inner cvs spring to mind, then use big block shafts and hubs.

No, there are no holes on the block for the center bracket to bolt too.

thats not to say some fancy bracketry cant be made up to fit it.

tbh I dont think its going to make much tangable difference on anything with less than 200lbft of torque. You'd be better off with a plate diff than dicking about with shafts imho

Lowering it will also help but I suppose it depends on how OE you're wanting it to look.

Its already lowered and running a diff, shaft question was just in my head after reading on here, ben answered my main concern about mounting the brackets, not getting into no major fabrication project for it so its a no no then, as for oe its not a major issue on this project (see signature) subtle changes are ok

Aye, and if you did fabricate something, it would have to be fapping strong, as the flappyness that would ensue from that bracket failing would do a good job of ripping the sump off probably!

Is it actually torque steering or are you just assuming its going to?

Assuming it will and as it doesnt look a particularly expensive mod to do i thought it would be worth considering considering the amount of thought and time thats gone into the engine and car so far.

Not getting into making brackets although it wouldnt be an issue to make and i can get them machined like i did with the caliper brackets, its gona be to much of a pig for little gain, if it had of been bolt on then it would of been on the list

If you're running a diff and you've got your shafts reasonably close to flat, i doubt you're going to suffer much with TS anyway, in fact on the flip side, you might suffer tramlining instead lol

if it TS's one way only, fit a skinnier tyre to that side lmao
