Proper pissed off now.

Most of my weekends and evenings now are spent on my phone (personal mobile) speaking to people on there car whoes. Now i dont mind when Mr Reynolds rings up and asks if i can patch him in somewhere, ie them genuine ones that actually want something done, just wanna know when have a chat on non-related tripe and then hang up. But its the muppets that ring up, wanting not something done, but wanting to bend my ear on how to do something, (which winds me up, i spent 4years learning my craft properly, spent all that time in college and at work having my certs showing my abilities, so why am i gonna tell some monkey how to do something that i worked hard to learn and master), which if you know me when i become uninterested you soon know about it, or my personal fav just lately... Can i borrow etc etc.. oh fcuking yes, i have nothing better to do but wait round for you to call so you can borrow something off me, no i really want to drop everything, get my bundles of keys out and trot round to my place of work out of hours open it all up so you can borrow a T45 torx bit, which will know doubt get lost or broken, or me not get it back for monday when on sh1tty said day im unfortunately working on some french piece of vile spat out by them horse eating shirt lifters across that lovely divide of water.

I work seriously hard, all i want to do is wind down and step back from what is now fast becoming my 2nd home, i spend far to much time there now. Partly my own fault as when i clean my car i go there as i can get out of the sun and do it properly. Strange thing is when im there i get less hassle from people seeing me there on a weekend than these muppets that sit in wait to ring me out of hours

Think thats my rant over... until i think of something else :p

I have/had similar "out of hours" problems as I'm a financial advisor based at home. I used to only have my mobile listed on my business card and when I didn't answer and let it go to answerphone people would then look me up to find my home number! Their opening line is always "sorry to call you at this time/on the weekend, but..."

I let nearly all unknown to me numbers go to voicemail now when I'm outside of normal hours.

In respect to people wanting things for free you've just got to be blunt. They want advice on their car tell them you have a free slot next week if they want to book it in. You keep being easy, people will take advantage.

I do IT support and stopped doing PJ's (Private Jobs) years ago. If you let it happen people will have you on the go 24/7.

No-one calls me for help anymore lol

Oh lordy, working in IT is the worst. People think I like fixing their computers after they downloaded too much pr0n or deleted c:\windows because "it was taking up too much space" or whatever. And if you work in IT, you "know computers", so you can do anything, or they can give you a vague company name and you instantly know their website, or can work every piece of software ever invented

Oh my days lol

Because I work with programming, can play with cars electronics and am generally a god, apparently that means I know how to operate every single mobile phone, home entertainment kit, pc, car, everything..... I've even had to start being rude to family to tell them I dont know. Best excuse is having a mac and saying "ohh I dont know how to fix windows anymore as I call IT for that at work" lol

this is normal....

when i was working in our building dept, everybody appeared & was trying to get me to do their drive/garden/ decking etc for pennies..... and i simply refused to even price the work up, saying, i will do you a good job & at a fair rate, but i'm not doing a cheap job, because i only want to do it right, and i will not cut corners as it will affect our friendship.

Oh and its amazing how popular you get when you drive a pickup....till you quote a rate per mile

it comes with the territory.......

i also think it contributed to the downfall of mr astley.. it seems that he spent hours on the phone telling young dreamers how to do stuff, but not hours on the phone making money.......

lol

I get the same, I don't even work in mechanics, but because people see me working on cars they think i'll do jobs, I don't mind doing a service or whatever for money, but when someone for example, comes back a third time because the crappy plastic cv boot has come off thier saxo and they haven't paid anything, i just say i'm busy doing my own car

Thats only half the problem though.

Also what about people "borrowing" the tools and never returning/breaking them.

Ash
12-04-10, 11:25 PM
why lend them when you can hire them? Even if you return the cash when they return the tool. As for phone calls - only in office hours, if its outside then they dont want to pay...

lmao at everyone else getting pulled into doing jobs outside their work - I thought it was only me. Im a graphic designer now, so I sit on a pc most of the day... so apprently I know everything there is to know about computers... EVAR.

Same with cars, my gf's family think im they're fleet manager (they have 4 mondeo's, polo, ibiza, corsa, mervia and recently some jap van shed I've never heard of that half the engine is missing/not connected)

If only I had some time to myself lol tbh im my own worst enemy...

that takes the piss tbf mate think you will just have to be blunt and explain that you own thw tools as you need them to earn money so cant afford to loan them out and that if they want your knowledge to book the car in and you will repair it for them

Welsh Dan
13-04-10, 04:07 PM
I get the same with IT repairs (which is what I do for the dayjob). If any unknown/private numbers call when I'm feeling lazy I just leave it go to voicemail.

I make it clear that if I miss a call and there's no voicemail then I won't bother ringing back. It seems a lot of people don't like to scrounge via voicemail so that sorts out a lot of problems for me.

Because I did a lot of work to the nova, mum&dad like to drag me in to get their corsa sorted out, like when the MOT expired lol.

Dod

I can relate to this. Phone calls arent so bad, its when you get illedgable chavs texts asking how to make their uninsured and taxed Astra GSi's faster when there isnt a tyre on them.
