I am planning on running a 150gb Portable hardrive with my head unit. I am going to use a power inverter from the 12v socket but what would it invert to? 230v or 240v?

Thanks.

i ust to have one of those a few years ago absolutly amazing i thought great for billing ect... im not sure on what output it had but im pretty sure its slightly lower then a normal house plug so 230v i think. but it is enough to power anything i could run my laptop, ps2, hair dryer (miss's) i even once powered a hover with alot of revs aslong as the engine is running it will power anything maybe with a bit of rev's but be warned with the engine off your battery will last oooo about 15 seconds :) i bought the smaller one of the 3 you can buy and it was amazing.

the inverter self regulates, and all mains powered stuff is designed to run from 220-240v

^that is true.

Battery wont last 5mins, If it was really needed you could run a leisure battery in the boot, Depending on the load that will only last half hour/an hour.

You would be suprised at how many houses have 250V mains although they will only be paying for 230V

Yup, hard drives are well known for pulling 200Amps arent they:roll:

Battery will last hours and hours running a hard drive, as they pull milli amps:thumb:
