Managed to get hold of a thatcham cat 1 alarm, I feel prety competant about wiring it in myself but I'm wondering where my insurance would stand on it. I'm a qualified mechanic worki in a garage, but would the insurance want to see a fitters certificate/ intallation certificate before they accept it?

Yeah, a certified thatcham approved fella will give you a certificate and thats what the insurance want. You CAN do it yourself, then get a pro to check and verify it, but most will charge a bomb for that as they know you're trying to do it cheap so want to make some cash on it.

^Hours labour mostly, £40. Not easy to check it anyhow.

Insurance might not be bothered about the certificate anyway, Never been asked for it on my cars, YET. Dont expect your insurance to go down much though, maybe £10 a year lol

True, but you can bet they'd want to see it if you claimed for theft.

What Jack said. They dont ask for it when you take out the policy.
