just got hold of a sierra which I plan on using for a bit of sideways fun and to use through next winter so the nova can come off the road.
at the moment it has no engine in it so I'm trying to decide what to put in it. All ancillaries are still in the bay just the engine is removed. It was a carbed 2l twin cam. I can get most parts of the engine from the previous owner if i need to, but i think it might be easier to buy a whole engine than rebuild the one that was in it as it is fully stripped down.
anyone know if the escort mk5 rs2000 engine would go in easily, wiring hard?? or an engine out of a galaxy?? i think these are all based on the same block? or if i can convert a carbed twin cam to injection or vice versa?

I know its a nova forum but thought i'd ask anyway as theres a few people on here who know there stuff. cheers:thumb:

john, pintos aint that cheap but if one comes up i'll defo consider it. same mounts etc??

ben, don't worry it'll get welded.

mike, thats what i like to hear, gives me more motivation

bazil, know anymore?? no v6 yet, keeping it cheap just now. maybe later. plus i'm inexperienced i'd probably crash a powerful sierra, sideways haha

LET it :) The adaptors for the gearbox will be readily availiable as some rally boys fit XE's to escorts. Im sure mounting it wouldnt be a problem either and the wiring would be a piece of pee. All youd need to faff about with is botching the exhausts together.

Instant 200bhp for the price of an asmatic Pinto

I recently scrapped a 2.8 v6 from a xr4x4 cos nobody wanted it, bloody typical. The thing with putting a more modern engine in the sierra is the wiring, get the loom to go with the engine and your halfway there, next problem is taking a FWD and putting it in a RWD shell not only do you need to make up engine mounts you also might need a bellhousing conversion, as Lee says 20let would be really good but even an XE conversion would give you the same bhp as a xr4x4 but less torque, there is a conversion kit for the engine mounts, stick twin 40,s on it so it keeps the wiring simple and as it's been done before the gearbox should be adaptable but which one you need I don't know, or get a new credit car and buy a YB lump lol

shame bazil, but a no what you mean, when you have it no-one wants it then when its gone everyones after it. no let, i'm trying to keep this cheap and i'd rather have a 24v cossie lump than an xe or let. you can get a full granada cossie for £300, take all your parts and scrap the shell. bazil, you know any scrappies with any sierras?? take it your from paisley way??

I fitted a v6 cosworth engine from a scropio into this. Goes pretty well around the track and perfect for sideways action

so you've never heard of the merkur xr4ti then...... basically an american spec sierra with a 2.3 turbo pinto lump that was used in early 80's mustangs..

ps. looking for a cheap pinto????? find a transit in a van breakers.

resisting the urge of the 24v.

mowgli, already know about them being in tranny vans. might go for this as its simple. i need to do a bit more research first before making a choice though.

Mowgli, mk3 transit petrol ftw

grooge, yeah I'm paisleyish, was in at Renfrew car breakers today and got an epas system but didn't notice any sierras, the scrappy in hawkhead rd Paisley had a couple of granadas about 6 months ago, I'll keep an eye out for you next time I'm in a breakers.

cool, hawkhead scrappy had a nova a few weeks ago aswell. mckean st scrappy usually good for older cars. mate got all his parts for his escort there, had xr2s 3s n orions. no sierras though. think theres an xr4x4 down at kilmarnock n theres supposed to be a couple at inverkeithing. problem is a only have the nova to transport stuff n dont really want an engine in the back of it incase it damages anything.

There is a White gte in mckean st, no engine box loom tank or pump, smoke damage inside and no floor numbers, he wants £400 for it lol
