Take the pipes off and clean them out.
Best off changing the water weekly until its all cleaned out. Just use a weak mix of coolant and keep an eye on the temp guage whilst you do it. Three good water changes should have it clean as a whistle throughout.
You can buy water system cleaning products as well iirc.
ive cleaned most of the pipes out just wanted the rest of the crap in the matrix, engine and rad out. so i will just give it a couple more coolant changes cheers and see how it goes
take one pipe off & shove a hosepipe up it, then run it for a bit.. that usually flushes them out
Empty cooling system, dissolve some (mug full) washing powder in warm water, refill cooling system with solution, run for a day or so and repeat till clean.
I usually just stick a hose pipe in and flush it all through, may not get 100% of it though so just keep an eye on it and change the coolant when its showing signs of having the sludge in it.

brake up a washing powder tablet or dish washer tablet run it round for day or so use to do this to rovers when head gasket had gone it dose work:)
I usually just stick a hose pipe in and flush it all through
Rarely get any water round the matrix doing it that way, also if the thermostat is shut, which it would be on a cold engine, it misses the rad as well.

i usaly take the rad out and rinse with a hose pipe
take the hose from the matrix and rinse threw with a hose pipe
and run the engine with the pipe in a pipe to flush it through
