Thats not actually accurate, they must not block anything more than 35% of the light passing through, so you can only have a 35% tint on your fronts, BUT, a lot of manufacturers have been tinting their windows as standard for a good few years now so chances are you already have a small percentage of tint on your windows!

^I doubt they have a slight tint, I know for sure GSi do.

The front tints are tiny amount tbh, Rears ofc can be totally black/0% light allowed through.

You can get away with the fronts lightly tinted, any less than 50% light getting in the front windows and you'll get in trouble. (Up to a 50% total tint, including standard tint and tint film applied and the traffic boys can only 'advise' you remove them, its not endorsable)

I had the windows on my first corsa lightly tinted and drove for around 2 years with no trouble.

None before the b pillar and anything after it. However, most light shades on the front wont get you pulled over.

This is mine on the coupe and have never been asked about them, a shade darker maybe too much hassle than it's worth

All my windows are 0% tint! They as as they left factory all 18 years ago!

If i was to get pulled with 30% tints on front for instance, where would i stand with the old bill?

I already have a section 59 so dont want to get into trouble. Thats why im asking!

You wouldnt get into bother for having a light smoke as i said in my post.
As long as its letting in 50% light or more, then it's non endorsable & only advisory that you remove it.

My current corsa is a definate 3 pointer, i really should get my finger out and remove them.

All depends on which county you live in tbh. I always read that in jan 2003 (iirc) they changed the rule from 30% light on the front windows to totally light free or any factory tint. However this rule has been said on the forums so many times in the past and has been argued against. Just last year somebody on here showed me a rule online which said you were allowed 30% on the fronts, however i wouldnt be too sure about it.

The fine used to be £30 years ago, im guessing itl be £60 now and you may have to tear the film off there and then, or just put your window down lol

As for a scetion59, who doesnt have one? years ago i was given them weekly, aslong as you're not cocky i wouldnt worry about that. most are just verbal and try to scare you.

Be careful with front tints,
Essex police really have an issue with them
personally on a nova i think they look gash
But my mate had lightish tints on front on his beemer
got pulled and it didn't let through enough light so got three points and lost his license over some tint film :tard:
My advise, if your going to tint the front, as you have a white car they will stand out quite bit so dont go dark on the fronts

I also notice that if you have darker tints in the back it can make the fronts look darker than they are and attract un necessary law attention.

Light smoke all round is a win-win IMO.

I only want light tinting all round, And maybe a bit darker on the rear window.

Thanks for you advice everyone!

+Rep left where it would let me!

I meant id leave the car with standard windows in as im not really a fan of tints on novas and cars which arnt a dark colour. A really light tint all around may look ok though.

VLT is how it's measured, 100% > 75% LEGAL , 75%> 50% PROHABITION DURING DAYLIGHT , < 50% IMIDATE PROHABITION and tested at a vosa depot to have prohabition removed, my S3 had 18% all round so my car was put of the road straight away, I appealled to the traffic cops good nature and he escorted me home rather than make me have my car recovered, upon removing the front tints the VLT was 79% on the retest and that's the stanard tint, no fine and no points :)

Really lol

Stay away from tints as the cops tend to be a hell of a lot stricter theses days, they look darker on white cars anyway.

iirc Adam had a run-in with the police about the tints on his Nova and had to remove them.

Why two pages when the question was answered here? (well, almost answered, wrong figures lol)

For vehicles first used on or after 01/04/85: windscreen is max 25% tint, front sides are max 30%. Anything behind the driver can be whatever you like.

Bear in mind that even non-tinted glass prohibits a small amount of light passing through, so even a 30% tint on "clear" glass may restrict light even further.

Note its against the law to supply/fit illegal tints, use a car with illegal tints, and even sell a car with illegal tints fitted.

[edit] Thats from a VOSA publication dated June 2008.
