do- not sell your pc
dont- buy a mac
you want an intel chip for the macbook.
Atleast that way if you dont get on with OSX you can put windows on.
No idea what a 2nd hand macbook would go for, but I'd be surprised if I'd get much more than £200 for mine and its one of the early intels from late 2007 iirc.
Try to get one with as much ram as possible, although its dirt cheap to get more in.
The power supplies run hot and can melt the power cable, but its generally no questions asked warranty work in the apple store (mine died last year so was well out of normal warranty)
Powerbook FTW. I love using my mates. Safari, Windows OS and a lovely cold aluminium case. I know no more.
Oooh and the charger is magnetic. :) lol

I love my mac! Converted to a macbook pro a few months ago for using for dj'ing and would never convert back to a windows based computer, i hate them now!
I also own a 27" imac for my desktop, awesome pieces of kit. Also doubles up as a HD tele for my bedroom!
If you want to save a bit cash, go onto apples website, and have a look at the refurbished macs. Can save a few hundred quid. And are just as good as brand new! Still come with a years warranty.
HEY!!!!!!! MACS RULE! but suck for gaming! literally depends what you want it for!
there generally only good for design work, web surfing, downloads, and general fecking around, but if you play games, dont eeeeeeeeeeeven bother!
the only ones i know of are spore and sims 3 lmao!

but break extremely easily! new one for my macbook is £58 quid so look after it with an inch of your life lmao!!!!!! it sucks having to tape it to the computer to get it to work lmao!!!!!
OH and dont let your pet rats near them eaither, they apprently taste good too!
draper you can have a play with my macbook ;)

As said, my power supply trashed the cable last year and it aws atleast a year out of warranty but they swapped it FOC at the apple store.
the case on mine is fairly cracked where its been used etc which is a little pants, but then I've not had to reload the os several billion times like I would have for a windows machine.
macs are great for pr0n, none of the crap that the websites put out is accepted by them :d
Oh and you can get Doom3 for it :) but I'm not really a gaymer
Being able to play games doesn't bother me tbh, ill buy a ps3 for that
I wonder if I could rob connor of his by doing the 'water-bottle in the case trick' lol

Buy this one CLICKY (http://www.jigsaw24.com/product-details/m799ara/apple-imac-21.5-3.33ghz-500gb-desktop-computer) (MACS are expensive!!!)
It's what I use on a daily basis and never had trouble at all. I use it for designing mainly but never struggle with running any programs that i use. I also run a application called crossover which lets me run windows apps without having to install windows :d
MAC aren't games consoles so if you won't it for this then forget it.
If your main concern is cost and dodgy websites from pr0n, just get whatever flavour of Linux you like the look of. Even have a windoze partition if there's anything M$-tastic you need to do.

linux
Linux = Free open source operating system. Benefits include lots of free software and no viruses to worry about.
Distros like Ubuntu install so easily (easier than installing Windows IMO!) it's worth a try (you can try it on the CD before you install too)

although im tempted by this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120553235345&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
good price/spec ?
Sorry lol Distro = Distributions, there's lots of versions of Linux
Ubuntu = One of the distributions I'd recommend http://www.ubuntu.com/
IMO Mac is for design
Windows is for everything else.
Mac is so "locked" and you can only really see the surface
PC you can dig down into the heart of the PC and see all the bits you wouldnt want to touch lol.
Mac are expensive as hell,
Pc's are cheaper. you can get alot more spec for your money.
IMO upgrade your PC and stay with that.
I dont design anything on my mac.... it just works plain and simple. No need to drill down as it all works well.
use PC's at work and they have their uses in being a commonised platform for business.
(and I know it was a good few years ago, but my macbook was the cheapest best spec machine with the particular features wanted ;) )

thats a good point about the common platform etc i like it lol
and yeh its the normal story, decided what you want it for, and go for the right one.
also another experiance i had from owning a mac. is always checking to make sure things worked with macs.
it might not be the case now, but it was then lol.
almost everything that you care about works now. Some mobile phones wont sync even with missingsync but its not the end of the world.
