I quite agree mate, seen much worse attempts at art!

This was taken with my ****ty 2meg camera phone too, might take my camera in tommorow and get some proper pics of it.

Makes my life much easier working for quality welders lol

True & True.

But do you really want pipes failing when they could be carrying Gas, nuclear fallout, fuels etc etc. It isnt worth thinking about. These guys are responsible for it & I assume ben must have a fair whack of responsibility checking this stuff?

Yeah this pipe is a 24" Gas line which is only 8km's long (we are currently working on 3 pipelines 1 is 8km's, 1 is 28km's and our firm have an 85km section of a 3000km line from eastern europe to the uk.)

The one im personally working on costs 6000euro's a meter! that is what the belgian gasboard are paying for it. There are inspectors inspecting inspectors and its full of bull**** but as you said "IF" one of these went pop it would leave a nice crater and a few dead.

This actual weld is going underneath a river hence why its full tig weld, the normal line welds have a tig root and a stick fill and cap.

There are 2 welders per weld, one either side and they work from top to bottom, there are 10 passes on this thickness of pipe. They really are top of there game, many try to get onto these jobs but there are rigarous tests before they can either get there helmet out the car.
