i havn't used one but ive been told you get loads of over spray
from what a few painters and decorators have told me that in order to get a real good finish your looking at about 300-400 quids worth of gun system. i was thinking the same as you maybe be a cheap way to spray but now opted for the gun and compressor

WRONG! i recently used my electric sprayer to paint the inside of my nova. a rattle can could never get a good finish like this.
it came out pretty good, i prob could do the outside in a decent fashion but dont want to risk it. i bought mine about 5 years ago and thought id give it ago. the primer had to be thinned down more that what the ratios should have been but i sorted it. mine was around 55pound, has a base unit with a motor in which blows compressed air up the pipework to the gun, its HVLP so thats heading in the right way for a normal spray gun.lol
also considering i kinda know a little how to spray as i worked in a bodyshop for a bit, other people just jumping straight in might make a mess of it.
but as ive said, i wouldnt use it as an overall respray. im having it done properly.

You will pretty much never get a decent finish over a large area without using a good gun and compressor etc. Small area's are fine enough with tins but anything more you want to have the proper set up.

lol there telling you wrong then.
Our HVLP setup came in at a little over £1500+vat.

I think its more about the preparation.
If you prepare it good and wet sand and polish it after then it will come out just as good as with a gun, no matter what you use.

Er pass, ive used HVLP with water based emulsions & also epoxy floor paints an steel clading primer/paint systems. So obvious you can only prep plaster/cladding so much, none of this wet & dry (silicone carbide being its proper name) tosh

You wouldnt even get a base unit for £400. Finish is fantastic with emulsion on plaster, but obviously nothing like on a car. You just cant compare what ive used them for to painting cars lol lol lol

Ive painted all sorts with rattle cans and rattle can lacquer and got the same finish as with a gun. aslong as ivr made a nice job of flat and polishing it.
Heres my nova bumper, done completely with rattle cans

The finger gesture was to show an example of how good the finish was lol
Ive also painted a full car with rattle cans and i have photos to prove.

All the work done to t his car was done in that exact car parking space, it was my mates car, we spent some long nights working on it and in the end he must of spent alot of money because we went through alot of rattle cans, like 2-3 per panel iirc. but we finished it in the end and he sold it on.

Look at the difference in colour on this one on the door, lol i think thats where we bought an aerosol for it and it was a different batch from the last ones so the colour was slightly off lol
