View Full Version : cambelt change c20xe
just a quick one, is it a fairly simple job and whats the best way of removing the rounded bolts on my old bottom pulley? cheers
Angle grind the heads off then remove pulley and the bolts should just wind out.

Why have you rounded them?
my guess is poor technique + the fact they are seized in. I'm sure it wasnt intentional, maybe someone attacked them in the past.

These bolts always end up rounding off for one reason or another...
As said, grid off and replace with allen key cap heads. :thumb:

drill the heads off is what I did, pretty rusted on if you had water leaks and dirt etc.
they where already rounded when i bought the engine, all though if truth be told i dont think i helped the matter with my aldi allen keys lol. Is it possible to change cambelt and rollers in situ?

Nah they always round off!!
You are v.lucky if you get them out without having drill them
so shall i use a drill bit slightly smaller than the thread of the bolts going into the pully, and can this be done and cambelt change with engine in bay? cheers
Yes mate they can be changed with the engine in the car as normal.
Yep them too mate you may struggle with waterpump though iirc.
If you cant get water pump out undo the front engine mount and put a jack and a bit of wood on the sump. Raise/lower engine to get it out
