View Full Version : red bull gives you fines

was at a local meet earlyer tonight, and a copper pulled me up about my front number plate. it has a vauxhall logo on the left side, and this is ilegal. he then presumed that my rear plate would be the same.

he checked to find it was fine (original plate) and that pissed him of. so he decided to get funny about my 'ilegally moddified, dangerous' exhaust, i argued that it was fine and he didnt like that either.

he has now reported it to dvla, and my insurance company. he also said the car wasnt road worthy. i recived a £60 fine for plate, and have to produce at the station too.

the offending exhaust-

ok, log a dispute against this producer as soon as you can.

if the red bull can was fixed on with a couple of self tappers from underneath, & there are no sharp edges, then it is perfectly legal.

L14MNP
06-04-10, 11:25 PM
Or if it does have sharp edges then tend to them before anyonne else inspects the car. I assume you have a vehicle defect notification that needs to be corrected and then stamped at an MOT station?

I can't see how it is any different to a tail pipe finisher that you would purchase. It will be interesting what your insurance company think about the 'undeclared modification' though! :/

daverobson
06-04-10, 11:25 PM
well the producer is only for the plate. as i ahve to go in there any way i want to conplain or something. =/

just pissed me of because other poeple only got warnings about there plates, and 'most' people had sh!tly moddified exhaust and all sorts of ilegal mods. the copper only made a big deal about it because a group gatherd to hear what he was goin to do about it.

Lets hope every single detail of your car has been declared, or youll be down to the test centre again...

mowgli
06-04-10, 11:28 PM
well, if you had an illegal plate, then its just easier to pay it & get a new plate...... why did you bother telling us about the tailpipe, as the copper hasn't bothered following thru with it.......

Beat this.

Back in the kr00zin days when we would all frequently have our cars checked over a copper told my mate his wheels were protruding and it was dangerous.

They were gay ET TSW sh!tters on his Corsa so I said to him the wheel is allowed to protrude from the arch, just not the tyre.

To which he replied nothing is allowed to protrude past the wing mirrors.

After a collective 'WTF' we were informed it was because he had parked his car with the wheels on lock that it was dangerous and illegal!

Fcuking LOL.

daverobson
06-04-10, 11:35 PM
no he has reported the red bull can to the dvla and insurance comp as an ilegal mod. i understand the plate and will be paying the fine.
but i know that most the cars around me and loads of un claimed mods, wheels, suspension, brakes, exhausts ect... and he never booked them.

MattBrown
06-04-10, 11:36 PM
Just fook them off.

Im more than nice, but if theres one being an ****, like telling me my exhaust is too loud, i asked him to tell me the DB limit, he said if your all legal then just go.

I then left lol

Kinda makes you loose faith, as if you didnt have a liscince, they can't touch you

well that 'tip' isnt declaired and apart from that im fine.
dont really know whats gonna happen.
he also said something about the dvla, and that they might make me re register my car????

L14MNP
06-04-10, 11:41 PM
That's what you get for giving him back chat and lip mate!

Just let them have their moment and act with a little humility in those situations. Yes it's annoying and you don't wanna lose face in front of your crew (l0l) but it has to be done on occasion.

Read the situation, and the cop themselves. Some will give you a chance to explain yourself. Others will just talk/shout over you and generally not listen, only to wind you up further.

There is only ever one winner. I'v been in that scenario many times (for various reasons) in the past and although on a good few occasions I have argued my case, I find the majority of the time it is much better to just act out the yes sir, no sir, sorry sir routine.

Of course now that I am older I never get in these kind of latercations in the first instance. lol

Everyone knows you must have a legal correctly sized etc number plate, yet people continuously gets fines for having the wrong ones. Why not just save some money and put a proper one on.

L14MNP
06-04-10, 11:43 PM
he also said something about the dvla, and that they might make me re register my car????

I was warned about this. It is usually when you misrepresent the characters on the plate. I had several fines for spacing and was told if i done it again then I would be reported to DVLA and could lose my plate etc.

Sounds like he's skipped a few stages with you. What was the argument like? lol

I don't see the point now, with the almost constant ANPR coverage.

06-04-10, 11:45 PM
TBH I can't see much coming from it, sounded like the copper was trying to prove a point. I would be interested to hear what your insurers would say if you were to declare the juice can.

L14MNP
06-04-10, 11:47 PM
Even asking them to explain can be seen in some power hungry w4nkers eyes as questioning their all knowing authority mate. Tis a sh!tter!

What about telling the insurance that the can is a temporary repair covering a hole? That is if they even get to hear about this. lol

Shame he never done you for tints and was in a Mercedes - as they fail the light test with their standard blue tint glass. :/ lol

like i said, make sure it is fixed correctly, and if a letter comes thru the door, then get an engineers report that it is safe & post it off.. personally i'd be surprised if anything comes of it, after all, he's got your no. plate on his bonus list.

mowgli
06-04-10, 11:55 PM
well, if it was on private land & you weren't being done for trespass, then the cop hasn't got a leg to stand on. but you should get the plate swapped because you are on their radar...

if you log a complaint on the police website, it will have to be followed up.

but remember, they can pretty much do anything they like under the anti terror laws that labour rushed in

L14MNP

I wouldn't try and pursue the public hgihway route lol. They will come back with some t0ss like the owners of the land give us permission to police the area and under some obscure law it becomes part of the public highway.

We tried it once on a mates tinted car. Said it had been brought in by trailer and would be trailered out again - they said no dice as it was on the ground and there wasn't a trailer in sight.

They just make it up as they see fit.

Some cops are thick as ****, when I got pulled in Sunderland ages ago the copper asked me if I had declared my mods to the DVLA (Brakes, alloys and suspension) I said no as you don't need to, you only need to declare them on your insurance which I have done and the only time you declare things to the DVLA is chassis mods engine swap or a colour change.

He was adamant that you had to declare the mods I have to the DVLA.

IIRC, more than 6 people in 1 place, with no "Invitations, or tickets" can be moved on, Just laugh at them, its eisier to be all legal, then you can just tell them to **** offlol

if a supermarket checkout girl was incompetent & short changed you, you'd complain. if the binmen spilt half the bin up your drive, you'd be straight on the phone.... if a cop is crap at their job, and a fair few are, why not give them some stick?????? if he is local & tries to do you over after you have complained about him, then your next complaint is about harassment.... that'll keep him off your back.

Unlucky mate!

When they used to lie in wait for us at one of the local haunts I was once flagged down when driving down the road towards the place.

'If I had been in a traffic car I would have had you for speeding then' said the Focus copper.

'Get a T5 then we'll talk' *drives away. lol

this meet is a 'good' one is froma local forum and there are a few from the older generation, and that tends to keep the t.wats away. its only been on in this location for a few weeks tho, and more cunts seem to be turning up.

Youve never said exactly what he said (Unless ive missed it?) about the exhaust, Looking at those pics it looks like its out a bit far, from what my mate said when he had trouble with his exhaust, as long as it dont point out further than the bumper most outward part then its fine?

Anyway it will be good to see what happens.
