Octavia VRS, considering chopping the Vectra in for one fo these.

Atm I have a Vec GSi P1, its lovely, but bit juicy, and I do love a turbo car!

So been considering the VRS'.

It will still pull my trailer nicely, comfy big barge, probably a bit better on fuel.

Parts cost?

Easy to work on?

Common problems (part from coilpack)

Anything else?

Anyone got one, what do you think fo it?

My mate had one a few years ago, but to behonest, I have a memory like a seive, but he said he liked it.

Im not interested in chipping the VRS etc, I know how you would go about tuning one of them engines

Is it that the derv one or petrol 1800 turbo?

IMO skodas get a poor rep but are good cars, plenty of taxi drivers use them so must be cheap to repair and reliable aswell

Skoda's are very very good cars, my grandparents have had 2 now and I cannot fault either of them, especially for the money they cost, the dealer has been brilliant too.

I get the impression from reading some of the invoices my grandparents have that parts don't seem to cost too much alone, they have never had any problem at all with either car. Interior maybe seems a bit cheap but I'm not sure if this is the case for the VRS or not.

My mate had a 1.8 20v turbo MK4 Golf and it was seriously gutsy on fuel, it was tuned but i've been told that even standard they aren't the best.

common problems on 1.8t 20v engines,

cambelts do snap

cam chain tensioner can make a noise from cold

pick up pipes block up

as stated coils do go faulty !!!

There ok,not the best engines to work on,but a great engine for modds :thumb:

I know this because i work for Audi

well that's the one I was thinking of, if it's got a six speed box and 4x4 then it's the same as my audi S3 under the skin. mine has gone great for the 6 years I've had it and the coil problem is F**K all. 4 individual coils mounted at the spark plug if one fails it only drops that cylinder and cost £25 each from audi! I've had it happen on the motorway then I replaced all 4, job done. It went at 75000 miles.

Great cars IMO post VAG takeover. In fact id probably have an Octavia over a Passat. If you were looking at an Estelle, that would be a different matter lol

Who said 1.8 20vTs are thirsty?!

My remapped Mk4 Golf easily does 28+Mpg... Have had 45 on a run to Glasgow...

Good cars IMO...

Window regulators common fault. Most others mentioned...

Im 99% sure the VRS is diesal and petrol, I think it depends on year as a friend has a 58 plate VRS diesal in red.

I had a leon cupra and its effectivally the same car. Mine was a little thirsty (full tank - £60 would do 280 miles around town or 320 on a long trip driving like a granny) but it was the 180bhp (AGU) engine. Unsure what the VRS is.

We had standard octavia's at my old work and I personally hated the seats, couldn't adjust them to get comfy but I'm 6'3" and VRS seats are probably differant.

Lambda sensors go more than most, but not 'common'

Yeah you're right there pal.
1.8t petrol, 180bhp.
2.0tdi 170bhp.

Edited.....I think^^^ lol

Both beltin' engines, iirc the diesel engine is the same as what was used in the leon FR ?:thumb:

Aye newer Octavias now come in diesel variants.

Years ago Skodas were the butt of all car related jikes. But once becoming part of the VAG group they have gone from a laughing stock to cars that people want to own. I nearly bought a Fabia VRS a few years back (ended up with a Bora as they were cheaper).

Would love an older petrol VRS. 1.8t (same as a Golf when all said and done) play with it and your laughing IMO.

Mk1 Octy's 1.8 20Vt only (180Bhp)

Mk2 Octy's 2.0TFSI (200 PS) & 2.0 TDI (170 PS)

However in the Mk2s the 2.0 TDI has been superceeded by a 1.6 CDI (170 PS) IIRC - Common Rail injection diesel...

Fabia Vrs? My mate in his Audi a3 1.8t had a play with one coming over the tops at ramsbottom, thing was absolute rapid, proper showed him up.

No, it's just a 1.4 16v, 100bhp (slow, shopping car for the missus!:p ). Couldn't justify the money the Fabia Vrs goes for. They are fookin rapid things though.

The Octy Vrs is relativley cheap imo for what you get. 220bhp is achiveable before you start looking at stupid money on tuning. I'd have a Octavia over a similar Vectra anyday.

the old man got his new A3 (I tried to tell him not to but hey) with the 1.6cdi engine (again I tried to tell him not to).... funnily enough its utterly gutless and dosent do what VAG claimed it would lol
