Golf v5 is not very inspiring. Mk4 chassis is poor imo too.

My mate reciently got a type r(54 plate), wasn't overly impressed with it. Don't get me wrong it's nice but inside feels tacky for something thats meant to be the bollocks. The painted plastic doesn't wear well and there no sense of speed. It is a quick car but my nova destroyed it on the motorway. The Golf will hold it's value well.

not inpressed by a golf v5 imo i would rather have a 1.8 20v turbo any day or a r32 if you have the money :)

type r isnt really doing it for me either tbh.

have you thought about any over cars?

There is nothing wrong with the golf however the v5 is not what i would go for!! the 2tdi or the 1.8t are your best bets! The type r feels wrong imo but that may just be me....r32 doesnt feel fast due to having 4wd so is too smooth but a tuned one would be good!

Civic Type-R (EP3 chassis), handling is great as standard and VERY reliable engines but not the car for you if you dont like to go to 9k rpm all the time lol

Stoo
04-04-10, 09:52 PM
EP3s dont go to 9k
and they dont handle THAT well Standard!

Other cars to consider:

-Astra GSI/coupe turbo
-Ibiza Cupra
-Integra DC2

EP3s dont go to 9k

Well 8.8, iirc.

I like the astra GSI my mate is selling one its a nice car inside etc although the shape is 2 generations old now. Do you have an age limit? You would get a nice skyline, mr2 turbo, impreza, evo 4 poss 5 for that kind of cash

what r32 doesnt feel fast? old or newer?

Both mk4 and mk5 (my dad had both) dont feel fast enough....he has now got a mk6 gti and that feels fast due to having to put the extra work in (fwd) but when he went to try the new golf R he said the 4wd ruined it. Was too easy to drive there was no sence of power! :thumb:

I'm in a similar situation at the moment. Want to replace my Corsa and think I want a Civic Type R but the amount of thefts of them worries me plus they seem to hold their value really well as opposed to the likes of Clio 172's etc.

Also considering an Astra Gsi turbo but know i'd end up tuning it as it's far easier to tune than a Type R due to being turbo and then I know it would start breaking.

dont get a v5! ahem gay... i have a v6 4motion mk4. and it is awesome to drive. i would personally go for one of them.. but i like them so bit one sided.. very tuneable. think its 212bhp standard and pulls well in all 6 gears!!

What about an S3?

Civic's are good cars but you have to "work" them and drop a gear or 2 to get them to go anywhere at a decent pace but i like that as its sensible car and good on fuel when its under 5800(or whenever vtec comes in) and then when its in vtec its more of an hooligan carlol but is fairly quick(and drinks fuel fairly quicklol ).

Golf 1.8 20Vt Gti...

Sort the standard chassis out i.e. coilovers...

Tuning options are huge from 200Bhp to 300Bhp for not alot really... Also still relaible ;-)

Leave it stock looking on the outside other than a drop and some rims i.e. inconspicuious i.e. can park up and not worry too much and then also a sleeper in terms or performance...

All achceiable easily with your budget...

Did I mention I have a nice clean black 3 door example with 80k full history etc... ;-) lol

Im in a similar decision on what to buy my mrs, have condidered most you are and decided the mk4 golfs are too expensive for there age.

I am also weighing up a cooper s, ibiza cupra tdi, 320td compact or a merc c220 cdi.
