Ok guys, thought I'd get a thread going on my newly acquired saloon..

Been after a tidy one for a while and spotted this one on here a few wks back, stuck a deposit on it and collected yesterday after a 400 mile round trip mostly in the rain! Journey home was faultless thank god, even tho the cars only covered a handfull of miles in the last 2 yrs.

Its pretty tidy as the pics show, with only a small amount of bodywork been done in the past by the looks. Clocks show 80k so its been looked after well, engine is surprisingly quiet for the 1ltr OHV.

So this is my 3rd Nova, previous 2 were a 1.4 SR when I was 18! and a base model mk2 with an XE swap a few yrs ago, which never really ran proply, although I bought it already done...

Plans... dont wanna change it too much, as I love the old school look and shape of the saloon, but it def needs some more poke, so a small block 16v swap will sort that once I've gathered all the parts I need...so he's what I have planned and some pics...

X16XE full swap
Uprated mounts.
GTE/GSi flywheel
ARP rod bolts
4 branch
Custom 2.5" exhaust with OE style tailpipe
Early Opel grille
Early mirrors
Pressed plates
All plastics painted satin black or dark grey (undecided)
Arches rolled.
New OE headlights
Clear front indicators/repeaters
Coilovers
256mm brakes
Rear disc setup
Fully poly bushed
Uprated ARB's
8x14 banded steels
195.40.14 Conti's

Interior staying standard!

After a wash... paint pretty faded.

Gotta love the interior...

After a T-cut and polish, also removed the sticker from both sides.

Boots like new!

Yeah the plate is a bonus!

Collecting my X16 swap nxt wk so will be on the look out for a suitable injection tank and pump to go with it, then I'll source some uprated mounts (like the look of the alloy set on ebay).

Got a set of steels ready to send off for banding, jus need to measure up exactly how wide I want them, to get the stance right.

Also my 256mm brakes turned up with braided hoses... they'll go on once the steels are done...

Won an Opel grille on ebay the other day so will slap that on soon as it arrives and get a few snaps...

Thanks for comments.

Not going to ruin your build thread milko as I do hope you do something nice with it because as a fellow coupe owner I know how awesome they can made to look! I was only going to use it as a summer runaround piece of fun so looks like its gone to the right place.

Ok a little up date.... finally got abit of time to spend on the loon yesterday....

Started off by changing points and condenser so she runs abit smoother and had a quick polish round the underbonnet area... gonna do it proply when engines out tho.

Then I debadged the bootlid, came off easy enough...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/milkfloat/10.jpg

Had picked up a new grille so gave that a lick of paint (will be doing all plastics to match)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/milkfloat/11-1.jpg

Ok, so yesterday I popped to see a mate and whilst having a chat and looking round his new Evo MR400 I spotted something in the corner of his garage... After handing over £30.... I walked away with a set of Sunny GTiR wheels wrapped in nearly new 195.45.14 Falkens! RESULT!!!
I only really wanted the tyres for when I get my 14" steels banded but I thought I'd chuck them on to see how they look....
I thought they looked ok so gave em a lick of paint and stuck em on for now... as I now had 14's on I could fit my 256mm brakes and braided hoses aswell... bonus.

Heres a few snaps from earlier... dont worry coilovers here nxt wk!

24-04-10, 05:02 PM
Today I got to work painting the plastics... after a hunt round the garage I came up with 4 cans of Upol Matt Black and a can of pastic primer and set to work....

Only thing I didnt paint was the mirrors as I want early Mk1's anyway (I've jus picked up a N/S one off ebay).

Also collected my 2nd hand coilovers during the wk, the adjuster rings were well seized... after soaking in WD40 over night, it still took me 3hrs to sort them out this morning! But all done now, jus need my rear 110mm spring which are on their way. Should be on its ass next wk (and my god it needs it!)

Clear indicators should be here soon so I'll fit those along with my new headlights asap and I think I will tint the rears all red, so will need some tinting spray.

Anyway couple of pics the loon after todays efforts....

Sure will Dave, Class A for me as I'm going X16XE swap as its simple enough for me to do myself (with a little help on the wiring!)

Still a few 'issues' to address, like the fact my top mounts are fubared and tracking needs setting, but gonna wait till front end is poly bushed and I have new top mounts, which should be this wk funds permitting.

I could do with shorter shocks as mine are 70mm shorter and springs can still dislocate at tho mo...

I have 25mm to go at the front but would be nearly on the bumpstops...

Jus dropped it off to have the exhaust modified to fit the X16 downpipe, Ashley system with custom discreet backbox.

Jus temp sender to fit, new plugs and an oil change ready for the drive to PVS on Sun... wish I could get a few miles under my belt before the long trip... but thats what the AA is for!

Thanks to Ade dor sorting me a stand pass so quickly.

Done around 40 miles in it now, box is whining its bag off! But I'm not gonna change it before PVS, so it'll have to hang in there!

It does seem amazingly short geared tho, maybe due to my tyre size (195.45.14) can hit the limiter in 5th very easily!?

So after a near faultless round trip to PVS and back (350+ miles) I decided to get a start on the interior. Now I was originally gonna leave it totally standard inside, but I had these seats just sitting there from a previous project and I was leaning towards the retro racer look anyway so I thought why not... can be put back to standard easy enough if I change my mind...

First off a pic of my OE style discreet exhaust... discreet only in looks you understand as its rather loud! Full system cost me £80 and its all new..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v37/milkfloat/DSCF0765.jpg

Knocked up a couple of seat mounts using old GTE subframes off Rob (cheers buddy) seating position not 100% yet as I want to get my new wheel in there 1st, seat is abit high and too laid back at mo...
Also stripped out the rear, which I'm gonna paint at some point and possibly a rear cage, but not defo on that yet.

Gave her a wash too.... :)

Sounds like a decent run at that terminal - prob wont see much more than a 14.9 at that terminal...

I would think she has more though - 14.5 should be achievable!

Yeah I meant more to come when I get a 4 branch and powerbox on and abit more weight out of it....

I think 14.2 is poss...

Then if I scrape enough for an LSD who knows!

I also have some proper drag radials, when I used these on my old Civic I could hit low 1.9 60fts...

Actually - just realised that this is a std 16v! I thought it had TBs!!

You really will struggle to beat that time mate - well done!

14.5 is a figure I would expect with TBs tbh - but you should see a few tenths off with a new inlet etc!

Prepare to be surprised then! lol

My 60ft on the 14.9 was 2.2... I could get 0.3 off that on drag radials...

My old Civic ran 12.9 from a 1.8 N/A lump, no tb's or anything... 1.9 60fts.

Trouble is, those tracks are miles away from me, so with fuel etc it ads up, plus you always have the issue of breaking it and being 200+ miles from home!

I've been looking at Cadwell Park as its local enough, but its pricey from what I can find...

Couple of shots of the loon in Drag.... ;)

Sound proofing now stripped out, anything that bolts on/off easy enough removed but will be back in for shows etc, along with carpets and aftermarket seats, once I've had some seat mounts welded in.

Single wiper fitted, parked so its aerodynamic! :)

Passanger mirror blanked aswell and some other minor bits removed from engine bay etc...

Weighed in at 710kg with 2 seats on the local weigh bridge, which only goes to nearest 20kg...

600kg seems along weigh off.... :(

I thought the Z16LER bottom end was diff as they use an X18XE1 type of head? If it is possible, what capacity does it work out to?

Good call on the turbo internals, you know who can do that for me?

Feck that then, they got some funky throttle setup I think...
