True, but its usually stored in a pressurized container which CAN explode :p

As for the vid, ouch! But could happen to any car.

your lucky that hungry shot of vtec didnt blow the welds on the intake valve

o wait it did lol

Lucky the flywheel didnt hit him (i think it was the flywheel)

ex·plode [ik-splohd]
–verb
1. to expand with force and noise because of rapid chemical change or decomposition, as gunpowder or nitroglycerine (opposed to implode).
2. to burst, fly into pieces, or break up violently with a loud report, as a boiler from excessive pressure of steam.
3. to burst forth violently or emotionally, esp. with noise,

Again due to honda engines running the opposite way round to normal engines, the force of it fired the flywheel forwards not backwards, clever guys they even prepared for epic vtec/flywheel related fails lol

Flywheels are circular, it just depends on where it actually lets go as to which way it flies.

Thats why they use it for exploding fuel?

How does it work???

Black magic. It's chemistry, pick up a book, failing that find someone who knows what they're talking about on the internet (long shot) lol

Nitrogen is very inert (and when coupled with oxygen, stops that from doing anything), but its used to deliver more oxygen into the engine.

N2O contains more oxygen than atmospheric air. When heated (such as in an engine), the two gases split - the nitrogen does nothing, but the additional oxygen burns and provides more power.

As said, the reason its explosive when stored is a) its usually stored in pressurized containers which can explode if pierced or burned, and b) if its subjected to a hot enough fire the oxygen will separate and become explosive.

MK999
19-04-10, 09:02 PM
Oxygen isn't flammable either :p

Jack
19-04-10, 09:05 PM
True, but it oxidizes the fuel and allows that to burn ;)

MK999
19-04-10, 09:08 PM
It does, but if it doesn't burn, it's not explosive either :p

Dod
19-04-10, 10:04 PM
Oxygen is in the atmosphere, its all around us. Without it, nothing would burn. There is a small percentage of it in the Atmosphere but when you get 100% Oxygen and nothing else, it causes stuff to burn more efficiantly, almost giving an explosive result, and in some cases, an explosive result.

Didn't you study Science at school?

MK999
19-04-10, 10:32 PM
fuels however are not in the atmosphere and as such oxygen by itself is not flammable in the atmosphere. Yeah I did, chemistry at AS level in fact.

Dod
19-04-10, 10:48 PM
Yes, what you said is true but pure oxygen will help fuel burn faster, so a combination of fuel and pure oxygen can be explosive.

Stuart
19-04-10, 11:18 PM
and the severe drop in intake temperatures that will help haul more atmosphere air in too.
