are 'big boyz toyz' still trading?

failing that i would send a pm or mail to the owner of that one as featured, then maybe try and trace it back and at least get a name of someone involved in the build maybe

Anyone any more info on RWD novas
First one i saw was created by Ian Jemmison of york way back in 1988 !!
So its nowt new - it was a 2ltr on carbs
He used to rally it on single venue rallies - Car was featued in Fast Car mag and called AVON - (Nova backwards - clever eh!!)

Chris LR
21-04-03, 05:39 PM
about as clever as RANDY LOVER

I like that red nova with the 1.8 supercharged engine! It is very different. The seat head guards are cool!! 8)

lol - looks like the next one is down to you then Dave :D
The key to its success will be getting the front to handle right i reckon else it'll be so tail happy....you may have to ballast the front over and above sticking the battery and fuel tank in the engine bay?

tonydry

it might sound stupid i dont no but is there no way the engine can be in the front and borrow some parts of a rwd car and do it that way is the manta rwd

Stuart

to have the engine in the front and have the drive train in, youd have to space frame most of the chassis. all fun and easy, jsut time and money consuming.

Yeh - I looked at front engine - drive from rear wheels and decided a lot more fabrication would b neccessary (Transmission tunnel/prop/diff/axle/rear suspension) - Much easier to put and engine/gearbox in the back !!!!

Plus if you go with a front engined rear whell drive Nova you'll lose more power through the tansmission (Gearbox, Prop shaft, half shafts etc) that you would if you just plonked an engine and box in the back.
Do it the way we did with Squints 2 rear engined Escorts (Both Fast Car features) - chop the majority of a Nova engine bay out and mount it where the rear seats / boot floor should be, bolt the engine into it's new found home (Should pretty much drop straight in as all engine mounts etc will be in correct location).
Then all you need to sort out are the clutch / throttle cables, fuel cell etc etc (And you have to leave it a little longer between oushing clutch down to changing gear as the length between pedle and clutch is longer).
Sounds so easy, but try doing a twin engined Nova as rear engined have been done already......

Would that be as fast as a 2.0l 16v? Bigger combined engine but more weight?

Why not try 2 x 2.0l

i have also been considering a rwd conversion. i have measured up the rear axle on my mk2 escort and it is the same length as the rear beam on a nova. i was thinking of using my 1.6 16v engine on a ford gearbox using a bellhousing adapter from sbd, and a shortened escort prop. it would take some modification for the tunnel. engine mounts could be made from modified caterham mounts possibly. just need the time and money...

no cause it's only gonna be 110bhp

Why not try 2 x 2.0l

cause it costs more and the 1.2 are light and less hassle to work on

Who's gonna be the first to strip out a Nova and stick a motorbike engine (or two) in it?
Q: How much would that rule?
A: A lot!!!
:o

a couple of zx12r engines will do nice. it'd cost a few quid, especially to mate the 2 gear boxes.

Nova-Boy
24-04-03, 03:29 PM
Why use a zx12r when you could use 2 hyabusa engines??

or 2 ducatti 998R 'foggy' engines! yes please

dh dev
25-04-03, 09:15 AM
i wouldn't bother with twin motorbike engines. a mate of mine has just had a mini built with twin r1 engines in the back. whilst it is fast (0-60 3.2, top speed about 130) he has had numerous problems including overheatin, being unable to start it for at least half an hour after it has been run... plus it cost close to ?40k!!

Stuart
25-04-03, 09:45 AM
also two hyabusa engines would cost near ?10K to get (legitimately, i do know someone who can get one showroom condition for ?1k a time lmao)

forget bike engines they were designed for bikes so leave them there lol

fearless
26-04-03, 01:11 AM
Yeh - bike engines r meant 4 bikes - Nova's r meant for vauxhall engines - I have 4 spare 2.0 16valve engines in the workshop - it would be a shame not 2 put them 2 good use !!!!

Dave- how about the ultimate project of 1 above each wheel? 600bhp? in fact ignore me i'm pissed

Hmmmmm!!! - A bit tricky that one - Hard enough doing mid engine/twin engine - 4 engine impossible unless convered to tractor pullin spec !!!!

A couple of them may be put to good use in a future project !!
