I'm not sure everyne has entirely good things to say about surface processing Ltd TBH from what I have read.
ive never heard of them lol
what have you heard Craig? as this was what i might be doing aswell,
Surface Processing are AFAIK the only place in the UK that offer the kinda service they do!
Ive also heard bad things about there work, yet heard more good things about it thought.
mike what sort of bad things? cost, finnish, etc
Novasport had a problem with air bubbles, but i think they have changed there process now.
It is bloody expensive too, Budget about £2000.

After chemical dipping, they seem inept of being able to thoroughly drain & wash out shells, leaving (insert toxic chemical name/s here) in box sections & other shadowy places. Which over time works its way out leaving nice fresh metal open to the elements.
Other then that, there work is faultless really.
Didnt they destroy a brand new set of ketihs doors too?

do they do the dip primmer job to? If so would that not sort the problem of any chemical as it would be washed out by the primmer?

It's not cheap but through it's life my gsi owes me in the region of £8500 to date so I don't mind protecting it once iv restored the bodywork, I plan to keep it for many years yet :)
Bazil, corrosive chemicals wont get washed away by paint mate.
They electrostatic prime metal work tho, not spray it. (gives an almost perfect finish with a lot less waste)
Cheers for the info, I'll give them a call when my shell is nearly ready and do a little more research into this as I don't know much about it yet.

Fook paying his premium price for a service you can easily get done through any good motorsport preperation company thought lol
Didn't chris astley have one of his nova shells "heated" to remove all paint and sealer? somwhere in the n/w too?

surface processing burn the shells in a oven, to about 500 degrees, then use a chemical to clean the heated metal, this is was put me off having it done, they burn them as its the only way to get the underseal off in one go, acid dipping get the paint off but not all of the underseal, but i would rather spend and hour or two grinding it off with a wire wheel than baking my car to 500 degrees, and by the way, i have found a place that will acid dip cars (they have done my mates 205, great job too) for about £500

Got a price for the GTE shell, shell only no doors etc £400+vat :thumb:
For bead blasting it might be worth asking local places that do it if they have the space to do a bodyshell, I'm considering it so I'm going to ask some of the companies about here that do offshore equipment.

That's excellent! Do you get it back in bare metal though?

Wheres that then mate? Would consider geting my cortina done for that sort of price!
With regards to SPL, my mate has just got a Falcon back from them that hes preping, finish is quality! There were a couple of bare bits under the rear arches where there were bubbles, but this doesnt effect it. Just under 3k it cost I believe.
500 degrees is below the temperature needed to alter the properties of the steel, and any localised warping should be avoided as it's all expanding at the same rate, unlike welding... which is considerably hotter anyway at about 6000c iirc at the point of the arc strike.
was going to say 500degrees is nothing for a metal shell.

I wouldnt use SPL again, bunch of cowboys IMO and a nightmare to deal with. Ended up damaging my front panel which I had to get Ade to repair but they would not take responsibilty even though they had obviously hit it with the fork lift.
Keith had the same problem, they knackered his doors but would not pay to replace them.
If I was going to do it again I would go with media blasting, soda blasting seems to be the best option. Shot blast can warp panels due to the friction it causes.
