View Full Version : 1.4 i 8v engine
i am in the prosess of building a nova rally car and i am stuck on how to tune the engine . i have only ever set up subaru rally cars in the past and dont know where to stat on a vaux
would scraping the injection system and putting on twin 40 or 45 be better
any other sugestions would be appreciated :?

well first of all u'd need to give us the engien code
there are 2 engines - one from the SRI which uses multipoint injection and produces 85bhp give or take a bit
the other is the 1.4SPi - this is a low compression unit setup to run economically so its got a lean fuel map, stupidly mild cam and a restrictive head and inlet/exhaust manifold
if its the SRi engine then a 1.6 manifold and a set of 40's along with headwork, cam and decent zorst should see a nice gain
for the other engine - i think either heavy head work or finding a SRi head would be the best option, then get an uprated cam, and bop the 40's on and you'll be sorted
the SRi has a slightly different bottom end and uses the F13 transmission which is slightly stronger than the F10 of the other engine

A fellow rallyman!!!
I would recommend ditchin the injection in favour of a set of 40's, rally cam, and then you could get head work done such as porting, or get bigger valves put in.
Any questions just ask, my nova is a 1.3 running 40's wi a kent ast2 rally cam and a ported head.
what i need is to be running about 120-130 bhp can i use twin 45s
also does any one know what inner cv joint will go on nova drive shafts but fit into a astra dog box

you should hit the 130 mark wi the big valve head etc, i was told that 40's were better for the smaller engines but i might be wrong
ive just arranged for the crank to be ground and ballanced, the head to be skimmed and ported i am going to use twin 40s i think do you know if a gsi inlet mamafold would be any good ,has it got the right ports?
