My xe is running now but it will only rev up on light throttle till about 3000rpm if you floor it it bogs down and backfires. should the fuel pump relay switch the fuelling on full throttle? Just because i have had to re wire the fuel pump relay and wondered if i have put a wire the wrong way or something because it runs rich as hell on idle but i dont think its getting enough juice when the throttle is opened.

Cheers

Have you got a mpi pump fitted

Yeah i have im using a corsa sport pump, it started up and smoked loads (fuel smoke) but that cleared and now it just wont rev up and as it got warmer it got worse. The only sensor ive changed on the engine is the CTS.

one more thing, is a 20xe AFM different to a C20xe ? just exploring possibilities.

The fuel pump pumps fuel at the same rate, the pressure is regulated at the rail.

Misfire fixed?

dizzy and dis xe have differing afms.

Yeah missfire is fixed :) when it started up it smoked really bad and seemed to be over fuelling and as it warmed up the smoke went and then it didnt want to rev up :S most odd, im going to have another look in a minute.

Was it the CTS causing the miss-fire?

I put a cts on it but it didnt sort it, i just checked and double checked all the connections, earths, re wired the fuel pump relay, re earthed the rail straight to the battery and it started up on 4 :) just over fuelling like mad though now, i took the vac pipe off the FPR and it didnt change the way it was running at all still bogs down and the neighbours didnt appreciate the backfires it was doing at 8 this morning lol hmmm oh and the plugs were really sooty.

Anyone else had this problem?

Have you got the lambda sensor connected mate that will make it backfire and overfuel like mad it did the same on mine before i connected one up?

Mine hasnt got a lambda on it chap its a early xe, I think its the fuel reg but i havnt got one to try so im going to make sure its that, just runs stupid rich lol if you touch the throttle just after start up it tries to cut out and chokes itself up lol

have you got a late ecu on it? mine did this till i fitted a proper early ecu. is it a known good afm mate?

Ah true i remember you saying in an earlier thread we were talking in that it was an early XE but didnt you say you were running a later ecu of a c20xe though on it that could be the problem if so as it thinks theres no lambda connected so its over fuelling maybe?

Has the loom got a connection for a lambda? Mines an early XE/loom/ECU with lambda..

Has the reg been Fked about with?

All our local chavs run there reg springs compressed so the fuel like fook lol

Or one of them fse boost valves?

It was sold to me as a good AFM and i dont think the reg has been played with, hmmm il get the numbers off ecu and see if its the correct one for the engine, hope i sort it soon ive been wanting to drive it for ages now lol

Anyone know what numbers i should have on a 20xe ecu?

FX & FP are 2 that are early ones

Some codes here too

Nice one + rep il go have a look after dinner lol when i ran it, it sounds as if the timing is retarted as well, or not advancing, it idles fine but as soon as you try and rev it more than a 1/4 throttle it dont want to know and backfires lol could be just the huge amount of fuel drowning it though i suppose lol

Aye, have a look and report back!

ECU code is FP, so should be correct, i was just looking on auto data and it says the ignition trigger for a 20xe in the crank sensor? even with a dizzy? Im wonderin if thats playing up... Hmm

So at least you've got the right ECU, is there no-one local you can pinch and try a crank sensor?

Im picking up another 20xe on friday so i will be chopping and changing bits to make it run properly lol im going to change the AFM, fuel rail (suspect dodgey regulator) and crank sensor. hope by powers of deduction i sort it lol

At least you have loads of spares, I've done exactly the same :)

Had the thing running again for a few seconds, i unplugged the AFM and it coughed and then ran just as bad with out it connected,,, could this be the problem?

The heap is finally telling me something, got the engine managment light to flash up code 93 cam sensor, this may explain to starting issue and retarded timing?? I checked the supply voltage with a multimeter and it is only getting 10.6 volts at the plug :S should be battery voltage,, going to check all the wiring tonight and see what i find.
