Hi all,

Recently bought an xe, which had a problem with the water.. The heaters were cold, and the water was only getting partly around the engine.

The car was sat for 6 months prior to me buying it, which got me thinking the thermostat was rusted shut. Tried bleeding the system, and it didnt help, so im certain its the thermostat.

Im going to be servicing the engine (head gasket, water pump, thermostat, cambelt etc) and upon removing the inlet ive uncovered a problem..

There is a water vain boltred to the inlet, which flows around a oil pipe (by the looks of it) which is blocked. Is this needed for flow? Its the part inbetween the top of the engine and the water bottle.

Also, im under the impression that when changing the head gasket, new head bolts have to be fitted. The cambelt i need is the round tooth type (i think its the early one).. Does this mean i need the early head bolts, as there seem to be two types, old and later.

My engine is an xe, with a dizzy and coil set up.

Cheers prior
