i wana know if u can remapor chip nova gsi ecu?
does anyone one if it can be done

General Baxter

you can chip them, but mapping is a nono,

no point for 2bhp lol

craig green
23-03-10, 05:00 PM
No. The Bosch GTE ECU's were chippable, but much the same way as an ebay resistor makes the car overfuel.

Tool old a technology to make any gains from tbh.

General Baxter

really so a seimens is a no no ?

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:02 PM
so theres no point then.
thanks guys, uve just saved me a coupleof quid.

craig green

Siemens is a No. Superchips offered a 'chip' for the GTE for a while, I believe it included a chipped AFM also which if true, I have one, but I didnt get the ECU from the car in question. I nearly won one on ebay a few years ago.

Technically yes, it can be remapped. I think MSD would charge upwards of a grand to do it, if they wanted to. But you may aswell have standalone & enjoy the benefits of a better system & far cheaper remapping at many more mappers/tuners throughout the country.

I sold a chipped ECU on eBay some time ago, opened it up an it did have a Superchips chip in attached the board in there.

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:25 PM
howmuch do they go for?

Stuart
23-03-10, 05:25 PM
all it really does is increase the rev limit... everything else is just wasted fuel

Mike
23-03-10, 05:26 PM
howmuch do they go for?

Try an find one LOL lol as with a lot of the hard to find parts i had, ive never ever seen another one since.

General Baxter
23-03-10, 05:26 PM

what restricter would that be ?
he thinks its a scooter, anything under 1600cc is tbh lol

bazil
23-03-10, 05:28 PM
I was told when I bought my gsi that it had been chipped lol it's got the siemans ecu.

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:29 PM
rev restricter?

L14MNP
23-03-10, 05:30 PM
The rev limiter? Why would you want to. lol

BANG!

IMO they sound better being cained off the back wall from cold at Mc Donalds anyway. :)

Mike
23-03-10, 05:30 PM
rev restricter?

You on about the rev limiter?

General Baxter
23-03-10, 05:31 PM
rev limiter is there for a reason lol

Bubba
23-03-10, 05:31 PM
whats a rev limiter? :p

General Baxter
23-03-10, 05:32 PM
when the valves go clacker clacker, ease off :p

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:32 PM
wellthe revlimiter was taken outmy corsa sri before and it reved to 7.

General Baxter
23-03-10, 05:33 PM
7rpm,, ooo you bad boy lol

Mike
23-03-10, 05:34 PM
wellthe revlimiter was taken outmy corsa sri before and it reved to 7.

LMFAO dude you dont just "take out" a rev limiter! Its not like its a thing thats bolted to the engine lol lol its electronically controlled FFS lol

craig green
23-03-10, 05:34 PM
rev limiter is there for a reason lol

Warranty.

Does the engine pull to the limiter though? Mine wouldnt.

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:34 PM
5500 usually tho, just wondering if u can do them on gsi

L14MNP
23-03-10, 05:34 PM
wellthe revlimiter was taken outmy corsa sri before and it reved to 7.

Beast. lol

Is there any reason why? What was the engines spec?

Mike
23-03-10, 05:35 PM
My E16 reved to 6.2k??

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:35 PM
yeah i know its electronically controled, my sri did

craig green
23-03-10, 05:36 PM
What was the engines spec?

8 more valves! :d

However its doable with the newer management systems on Corsa's & the engines are that much more free revving due to the cyl head etc esp when a powerbox inlet is added.

Mike
23-03-10, 05:36 PM
, my sri did

did what?

Explode lol

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:36 PM
i thought it reved 2 5500

General Baxter
23-03-10, 05:38 PM
theres no point in revving to 7000rpm if peak power is made at 5800rpm is there ?

L14MNP
23-03-10, 05:39 PM
^ That's what I'm thinking. Maybe I'm out of touch, but hammering a car off the limiter was the height of cool in certain social circles. lol

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:39 PM
well i was just wondering if u cud thats all. were can i get mre power frm a gsi then,i gt kent cam init.

General Baxter
23-03-10, 05:40 PM
yeah you can, bigger displacement ;)

smithy64
23-03-10, 05:42 PM
displacement?

Mike
23-03-10, 05:42 PM
Bigger CC's, whilst your on the case of that sort your god damn spelling out!

i didnt know wat u meant by displacement,if u sed get redtop or sumfing then i wud know. lol.

You really need to learn to spell or at least try!!

I hope your not in the trade with knowledge like that!

Get a larger engine for the easy option or cams/headwork/carbs/throttle bodies/exhaust/etc are the way forward

General Baxter
23-03-10, 06:04 PM
its ok, if he works at a main dealer,

Tell me about, just tried doing the brakes on my pugrot and whatever retard did it before me ramped up the brake disc capture bolts and copper slipped the faces of the disc/wheel! So the wheels came off lovely but I can't get the sodding discs off for **** lol

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:04 PM
i know tha, i was gna put redtop in mk4 astra, as i hv z16szr engine in it before, but was smoking its titttts off.so i got gsi lump in it,. redtop in mk4 astra i needed alot of things, i posted on diff websites, but no one replied with the bits i needed, and i needed later redtop.but everyone had older version.

Nightmare mate. Drill FTW.

smithy64

u mean the screws holding the disks on?

MK999
23-03-10, 06:09 PM
u mean the screws holding the disks on?

No I mean the ones that hold them still so you can put the wheel nuts in, that hold the discs on... Did you get taught by the guy that did mine?

I would go nuts with a drill but I cba with it atm, stupidly did it in normal clothes since it's not usually a **** gets everywhere job, but now one of my favourite tops has got copper slip crap all over it. I'll go and drill the ******* tomorrow morning, pretend it's the face of whatever feckwit did the brakes.

You really need to stop the "txt" type or people will get angry!!:thumb:

Mike

Weld a hex bolt onto them, remove that way, then refit disc's with new capture screws.

L14MNP
23-03-10, 06:11 PM
I hate copper slip for getting everywhere!

Stud conversion FTW - or buy a car that doesn't use gayhat wheel bolts then this becomes a non issue. lol

MK999
23-03-10, 06:11 PM

That was also an option, altho I was gonna use a screw bit, hex nut sounds a better idea as you can weld into the middle and not weld the ****er to the disc in the process lol

Good lad. lol

I had to deal with them the other day on a mates 106 diesel. Line disk up with hub, line both up with wheel. Weak.

Better than a Fiat Punto! line disk with hub, both with wheel and all with wheel trim. lol

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:15 PM
copper slip is good ,only in the right places. not on wheels as you get it everywhere, all over your hands.
i hate copper slip aswel

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:16 PM
i know what you mean with the punto wheels.

Nothing to do with it greasing the mounting faces of the wheels and putting stress on the wheel bolts then? lol Snap.

Why did i just read all this, now my head hurts, and my eyes are ker-screwed from all the text type..

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:24 PM
no it shudnt ort to be anything like that. it woudnt put stress on them.

Learn how wheel bolts work and why cars have a nice flat hub/mounting face then come back to me :)

3 years doing what? Tyre fitting? lol

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:30 PM
i didnt realise what you wrote, i thought you sed wheelnut bolts, not hub face.

well if theres something like copper slip inbetween the wheel and hub, it shoudnt do much i dont think anyway.

MK999

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:34 PM

Mike
23-03-10, 06:34 PM
grease monkeys doing remaps i think?

muzzy
23-03-10, 06:36 PM
I sometimes copper grease my ECU

MK999
23-03-10, 06:36 PM
wat is it then mr clever

Your wheel nuts apply a force between the flat mounting face of the wheel and hub, the surfaces interact, you probably haven't noticed that they're reasonably rough. Copper slipping these surfaces allows the wheels to slip against the face of the hub and puts a shear stress on the wheelbolts, Mr 'Mechanic'.

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:39 PM
ok then,u try and get alloys off when they have bin on a car for over a year. copper slip is a good thing to use. i use iton my wheels

muzzy
23-03-10, 06:42 PM
I've come across plenty of cars that have had the wheels on for more than a year and they came off OK and weren't greased up.

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:49 PM
well some alloys corrode on to hub, and sumtimes a bassstard 2 get off, so i just copper slip the lip on the hub where centre of wheel is attatched to when on car

muzzy
23-03-10, 06:51 PM
Personally I just clean up the hub with a wire brush to get rid of any dirt, grease or rust. I never put copper grease on.

smithy64
23-03-10, 06:53 PM
and i do that, but i always put a little bit on, so its easier for me again if i take them off.
