Looks like a 49,000 mile K-reg Expression just up the road from me has been traded in against a 10-plate Singapore biscuit tin :(

Used to see it parked up on a driveway every morning on my way to work. Now seems to have been traded in for a new car.

Tried to buy this Nova on several occasions to save it from being scrapped but now looks like it has gone.

The scrappage scheme is killing off lots of decent motors now

it was a tidy car with no welding needed. Was hoping to buy it to use as a run-around while my Mk1 gets rebuilt

Since the scrappage nonsense has been going on there has been at least 3 MINT Nova's at my local scrap yard, one was just under 22k on a B reg utterly mint body work etc probably worth £1500 plus to the right person.

I thought the scrappage crap had stopped now anyway ?

I'm not sure if the goverments alloted scrappage funds have ran out but I don't think it will ever 'stop'. There's too many dealers offering their own versions now.

Vauxhall were offering £3K for any 7 y/o+ trade in. Even if a third of that does come from the government they've still upped the ante.

At least we don't subscribe to the Cash for clunkers scheme.mk4 Supra. Just one of many (some good cars) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxq8RCC542Q&feature=related)

Check this one hanging on! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waj2KrKYTZo&feature=related)

car scrappage stops at the end of this month IIRC but a lot of manufactures such as Vaux are now doing the same thing but calling it swappage instead without any funds from the government.

I think!!!!

so the yanks have to actually kill theres cars before trading in ?

L14MNP

They trade them in then the garage or some government facility pours sodium silicate (liquid glass) into the engine and back walls it until it solidifies it seems.

Yeah, that's helping the enviroment! Morons. Search Cash 4 clunkers mate. There's loads of vids on Youtube. :( Maserati Bi Turbo FFS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiORhKnwXF4&feature=related)

The promotion of the scrappage scheme has quietened down a bit it seems. Probably as the recession isn't biting the car manufacturers so bad as it was (with all those new cars out there, they'll be making millions off servicing costs) and the government gets battered on the total debunking of the "green" aspect of it all. With an election looming, I don't think labour want to risk further negative opinion, especially from all the tree huggers lol

Im sure there have been plenty of nice motors scrapped that arent known about, i got told of a story about a concours mk1 escort mexico, husband died, wife traded in, dealer offered 3.5k but that was against the scrappage scheme in her head so she went ahead with it, sure there are many more cars gone that people would of paid good money for!

2 novas in my local scrappy, both saloons, 1 2dr mk1, 1 4dr mk2, both have less than 40k on the clocks.

it was basically aimed at old people who have the cash to buy new cars but have old ones... trade the old one in, get a new car with warranty and a servicing scheme to save any real hassle for the old folks... win win win.

Some folks here managed to make good by chopping in a a nova for something a lot mroe fun (even after trying to sell it so dont ****ing whinge)

I know I will probably get flamed for my next comment BUT

I too considered the scrappage scheme as my Nova is off the road more than on and its supposed to be my daily drive, not that i get to drive it anywhere near that often, and I do need it for work etc.

The main thing that stopped me is the fact that the monthly payments for a new car even after the scrappage discount works out to be far more over a year than any repair cost I have had for the Nova so doesn't seem financially sound but I would like to have a car I can drive every day and the lure of a new motor is increasingly becoming more attractive.

what makes me laugh is all the folls chopping in for hyundai i10's. in 3 years theyre gonna be worthless, and the hit you take in depreciation isnt covered by the 2k allowance. i got offered a 2000 hyundai couoe the other day for 150 with 3 months mot. and dont get me started on the "green" issue. :wtf:

I thought it was quite strange tho how most new cars increased in value by around £1500 - £2000 when the scrapage scheme started!

the thing that is brilliant is the 10 year old car people have that they had many years of happy motoring then trade it in for a new project india and it will fall apart in the first few years.

I've seen a few Nova's advertised on here that IIRC ended up being traded in under the scrappage scheme, it seems nobody wants to pay half decent money for Nova's yet plenty of people complain when they get scrapped. If I had no interest in cars and just needed something to get to the work/shops etc and had a 25 year old Nova and had the opportunity to trade it in for a brand new car I think I would probably go for that!

i understand the perspective of the people in that situation which is why the scrappage system is such a brilliant idea for them. i was just making a point that enthusiasts are losing more and more potential restorations/projects/mint classics etc as a £2000+ return for a car thats effectively worth not even half of that is a win win for "ordinary" folk with an old car. Therefore not many people will be swayed into accepting a few hundred quid to keep a car enthusiast happy :(

Someone on here had a low mileage Nova up for ages which I'm pretty sure ended up getting traded in, people want these cars for next to nothing and this particular car was very cheap for what it was but yet it never sold. Maybe wrong time of year or maybe they are just struggling to make half decent money. I know from experience that generally people don't want to pay good money for a Nova, they would rather pay a few hundred quid for a tea bag which will be good until it's next MOT when it will then need to be scrapped.

Stuart

then said enthusiast should have offerd £2k.... Dont whinge about it if you didnt offer the same money as they got "given" (or conned either way)

i do know what you mean and speaking from personal experience money has been very tight for the last 18 months or so, so i would imagine many people are also in this situation and are not particularly willing to part with their money

The Vaux garage near us had an MGB GT with all the chrome etc chopped in against an Astra. What sort of sick joke is that?

One went in on a punto at the fiat dealers next to us a few months back, and the other week it claimed an immaculate (think as clean as dec's sport) capri:eek:
