View Full Version : Advice about upgrading 1.4SR brakes.

Hey Im thinking about upgrading my Nova front brakes to 256,

Ive read the guide - *HOW TO* Fit 2L 16v/Turbo/V6 front brakes

Im a newbie to this so any advice on part names so I get good calibers with good disks would be a great help.

Also any advice on any dificuiltys I might come across would help

The ATE calipers with 256mm discs are found on Calibras (not turbo), Cavalier SRis and Astra GTE/GSis and possibly a few more models.

They are a simple "bolt on" modification - remove current calipers and discs and fit the larger ones.

as above but you will need to remove the dust sheild part behind the old discs.

DONT BE DAFT JUST HAMMER IT FLAT WHILE USING A BODY SHOP DOLLY (LUMP OF METAL)

Never had to touch the sheld when i fitted mine.

I have heard this, as the disk must sit just infront of it:d

Just ensure the copper washer is cleaned, I put mine in the oven for 20 minutes to soften it again:thumb:

For the brake hose? There should be two (one either side of the banjo bolt) and they are crush ones so i'd just replace them.

Bend the sh1t shield back and its fine,those calipers are on loads of Cav's-dont just look at Sri's-ive seen them on a 1800 before....

That is correct, my 1995 Cav 1.8 LS hatch had those very brakes on as standard!

I have just fitted a set of these to my wee beast!

Just wondering though, is there a bigger/better servo that could be used?
