fuel pump sticking

i brought my nova (x16xel vectra fuel pump) for a spin today and the engine died. i checked for fuel and i was not getting any, their was power going to the pump. i took out the fuel pump and put it on to a battery and it would not go so i hit the fuel pump a few gentle taps and it seemed to go ok again. why would the pump stick? i have another spare pump should i fit instead

Maybe the pump is actually kanackered & not sticking. A few taps would get it going for a short while.

Fit the spare.

ok i better fit the spare one, i am going to race my car at an autocross on saturday and sunday and i dont want it to break down again!
