seems too easy?

if i fit 2ltr brakes to the front, will the rears lock up? people say no as the fronts are uprated also......?

other problem is handbrake? im sure some people said you can use mixture of cables to do the job

chris tunnicliffe can you shed any light? or anyone else whos done it?

cheers

You can use a hidraulic handbrake like the rali cars
and would be nice when you pull it!!!

my kit came with cables,
veccy V6 rear brakes use drums
but as i've said you can use the hidraulic ones

i'm

even fitting 2L front discs and calipers you will get the back locking up (mine did) You need to fit a bias valve to wind down the rear braking power. To be honest Mike its only purpose is for show because you end up winding down the brakes to the power you had with drums.
That is of course unless you have The Bremsport 4 pot and big disc conversion :) up front, then the rear will balance.
I used a hydraulic handbrake in mine, but for mot purposes you have to have the rachet type locking system that is in a standard handbrake.
So it might be better for ya to work it with cables.

it is for looks really to be fair, dont want increased rear braking

i read mickys guide on novaload and he said he never got it to lock up.

also i have been offered / as well as given / a cav SRi rear beam for nothing.

shall i just sell it? :(

chris tunnicliffe get your ass in here!

I've dun a few rear disc conversions in my time - and driven many a modified nova in anger with this conversion - and have not yet managed to lock the rear brakes before the front - although i have heard of people doing this - r they braking when in a straight line or when cornering !
Any knowledgeable driver knows u should brake when in a straight line - therefore not upsetting the balance of the car !!!

Anyway - back to the original thread - One possible cure to lessen the braking effort on the rear discs is to cut the size of the the pad material down - therefore reducing the contact area with the disc

I've heard of people cutting grooves into the rear pads - therfore reducing the surface area that comes into contact with the disc !!

Other that than - fit a bias valve !!!!!!

i used the method of removing the stub axles from the cav beam and also the nova beam, and then welding the cav stubs to the nova beam&drilling the cav pattern holes through the beam, was time consuming, they did work well though, but once drums are warmed up, i dont think they are much worse in performance tbh.

well i am gonna get the beam anyway.

if i cant see a way of getting them to work and work well, and the handbrake cables to suit etc etc ill do a rear beam conversion and sell on, must be worth ?75 notes?

i sold my car without the disc'd beam, and sold that on for ?70, but tbh it cost me that in parts/time etc to make, just needed rid of it cos its such a huge item and also weighed a ton. stick with drums mike, just get some decent brakes up front-unless you fancy makin the beam, then go for it

while braking in a straight line mine would lockup as if the handbrake was pulled.

well i have my latest Nova pretty much finished after months of torture! and i didn't bother with rear discs on this one. But don't be put off by me....thats just my experience with them. Put them in for show if ya want. after all thats all they're good for. But for use, even hard use drums are well up for it.
