Rusty for the most part, not very quick in either 1.6 or 1.8 guise.

Don't like the driving position myself but I still think they look great.

is this the one with the pepper pot alloys?

Not too bad - prefer to Pug GTi of same era - fuel filler necks renouned for rusting!

the xr2i's are oledr than the pug 106 gti's id like a 106 gti tho. 120bhp not bad from a standard 1600 :p

I used to have an XR2i and i do miss it, comfy, pretty reliable and had enough weight to stay planted in the twisties, they love to rot though, the skirts keep al the crud in so the arches are usually long gone, as are the sills and the filler caps rot out from the inside out but ill always have a soft spot for them though:thumb:

Just found out There only 68bhp that's shocking considering a 1.1 pug 106 is 64bhp.

They must be more than 68bhp?? I thought 98 ish?

Check for rot round fuel cap, rear arches and sills - ie lurking under the bodykit. Also the tailgate and front inner arches. Had one years ago and was a great car in all honesty bar the rust!

I believe they are 105bhp in 1.6 CVH guise and then slightly more when they brought in the 1.8 Zetec. Similarly quick but the Zetec models are a bit more refined

As for sports models, the XR2i was launched in 1989with an 8v CVH (compact valve head) engine but was replaced by a Zetec 16v version in 1992, which also saw the RS Turbo being supplanted by the RS1800 — as the CVH engine was being phased out, the RS1800 shared its 1.8 L Zetec (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Zetec_engine) fuel-injected (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel-injected) engine with the 130 PS (95.6 kW; 128.2 hp) version of the then-current Ford Escort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Escort) XR3i and had a top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). The XR2i name was also dropped in early 1994, and the insurance-friendly "Si" badge appeared in its place on a slightly less sporty-looking model with either the 1.4 L PTE (a development of the CVH) or the 1.6 L Zetec engine.
Trim levels were again revised in October 1995, to coincide with the introduction of the Mk 4 Fiesta: the range was marketed as the "Fiesta Classic" from 1995 until production finally ceased in 1997.

Yep. Or more commonly known as 'tappet monster' lol

I miss my mk1 xr2. At least a mate still has one though. :) I never used to like the mk2, but like a lot of things, time makes them cool!

I really like them but they rot for fun and IMO not as fast as they should be. A lot of thrashed and rough ones out there too. Rarely see them on the roads about here now.

RS shows for the dy. You see some lovely XR's and obviously RST's. The last FRST I seen was totally standard, diamond black with the green stripe. Awesome looking car.

I'd like to think/hope he was running a 2.0 ZVH too - just incase any XE Nova tried it on. lol

A mates dad had an XR2i when they were new, it was sh1t then, so its bound to be sh1t now lol

Always perfered the mk2 xr2, good handling and ok power not the fastest but can be tuned or drop in 2.0 zetec.
